VERY nice. Are the side bars bolted or welded? Does the 45deg bar behind the seats padd through the "waterfall"? Any pics of the project in progress? Where do the shoulder belts anchor?

That would not qualify at my local track for one stupid reason, if you install the 4 point harness on the driver side you have to do the passenger side too, they insist an instructor ride with you the first time and the seats have to be exactly the same. Other than that I really like that set up very nice. It does look like for many it may not pass the broom handle test.

I like it A LOT!!  F%$# the warranty  What good is it when GM is in the tank and its taking weeks to get simple parts anyway.

Goat is correct You do need the same harness set up for instructor side for NASA and SCCA track stuff, unless you are signed off to run solo!  Which you must be.

Does the top closed clear the hoop?

My helmeted noggin would just barely pass the broomstick . . . but only if I schooched down a bit --

Wow - nicely done.

Presuming the materials and mounting points are all to spec I suspect that this could easily be fab-ed to pass the broom test for most drivers
(sorry Ben L (who??  )) by adjusting the height of the top of the bar... I can't tell for sure from the picture, but it seems to me that there is still room above that bar when the top is up...
Graywolf - is this true?? If so: By how much?

Here is some of the wording from the SCCA Solo Rulebook;

Roll bars or roll cages are strongly recommended in all cars. A roll bar meeting the requirements of Appendix C, or a roll cage meeting
the requirements of Section 9.4 of the General Competition Rules (GCR), is required in all A, B, C, and F Modified vehicles, and all
open cars in Prepared Category and in D Modified and E Modified. The intent of this requirement is that all open cars using racing slicks
must at a minimum have roll bars which meet Appendix C, regardless of Regional variations in category definitions and/or preparation
allowances. For open cars in the Stock, Street Prepared, Street Touring, and Street Modified categories, the roll bar or roll cage
height may be reduced from Appendix C or GCR Section 9.4 requirements to the highest possible height which fits within an installed
factory specified hardtop or convertible top.

Hey, Deep, do you have "plans" for this roll bar? "Meesa liken it".

I might have to figure out a roll bar in my coupe...

Yes, I plan on running a 13.49 at the drag strip in short order, and I'm not sure how they'll classify the coupe...

Looked it up on my local track site. Looks like "t-tops" are considered hard tops. Sounds like me...

PT those sound like NHRA rules, those are the most stringent.  IHRA allows you 11.99 before a bar or cage requirement.

Yup, they run with the NHRA rules (makes sense, since the track is on the NHRA circuit)

I have the RMR bar and it all depends on the track and the organization for road course racing.

Drag strip racing is based on how fast you are.

This is not SCCA legal as someone else pointed out since it doesn't have a bar going towards the back

Not sure that's correct, Kenny.

I think you could run that setup in SCCA PDX and up to Level 2 Time Trials and meet the letter of the Time Trials (road course timed laps, not wheel to wheel club racing) Rules of even persnickety old Spoiled Children Crashing Automobiles.  Also, in my experience, road course tracks apply the tech rules of the sanctioning organization, depending on what type of event is being run.

So, turning to the SCCA Time Trials Rules, if your car is prepped to not more than Solo Street Prepared or Street Mod levels (pretty generous), and its a convertible, then your bar has to meet Section 11 of the TT Rules.

Section 11.2.4 of the SCCA TT Rules deals with bracing, and it says:

"All roll bars must be braced in a manner to prevent fore and aft movement, with the brace attached within the top third of the roll hoop, and at an angle at least thirty degrees from the vertical.  It is strongly recommended that two such braces be used, parallel to the sides of the car, and placed at the outer extremeties of the roll bar hoop.  Such braces should extend rearward whenever possible."

So rearward bracing is not an absolute requirement.  It is sure as hell is not possible in our cars, without major modification and loss of a convertible top.

Otherwise, let's see:  Hoop extending from side to side.  Check.  Bracing attached to the top third of the hoop.  Check.  Not less than thirty degrees from vertical.  Check.  Two braces, parallel to the sides of the car, at the outer extremeties of the hoop. As strongly recommended.  Check.

So let's hit the track, baby!

One would have to check the SCCA Road Race GCR http://cms.scca.com/documents/Club%20Rules/09%20GCR/2009GCR.pdf for themselves, as the Solo rule book refers to the GCR.
