NEW GPS
« on: July 25, 2009, 08:13:10 PM »
Just finished installing our new GPS. We had it installed at Winchester Discount Audio in Winchester Virginia. Great bunch of guys. (I hope its ok to tell there name here on the forum.) We went with the Eclipse AVN726E. I haven't had time to mess with it yet but the audio sound is fantastic and the GPS and DVD is hot looking. It also has blue tooth and backup camera. Here are some pictures I took while they were installing it. I hope you like them.

Very nice. Hope it's better than the one you had when you led me into the bank parking lot going to Myrtle Beach and I had to take over from there.

Let us know how the Nav works on the unit.  I have been trying to decide between this and a Kenwood.

The unit was $1299.00. Then you have to get the harnesses, backup camera and installation. It comes with Bluetooth. Total price if you can't install it yourself is $2200.00 and worth every penny. (As per Susan, I’m not programming in any banks) installation was about $300.00. They put the USB port in the glove box. They also put the connectors for my video camera in the glove box so we can be making a video and watch it on the screen at the same time or watch a video after a run in the car. The GPS shows everything in 3d. If you’re in a town it shows the heights of the buildings and elevated bridges. The DVD is crisp and clear and the sound is fantastic. (It is so cool) I will mess with it a little bit more this week and keep you posted.

Very nice !!    :yay:

Hope you have a nice chain and padlock around it or park it in safe places, I get nervous about putting that much money into a system now a days.  I assume it has some security features that come with it.  That said it looks like a beautiful system, love the 3D imaging !!

Here is a nice review of it with some pics,  video review of functions from CNET....

I will be driving it to work tomorrow so hopefully I will have the top down on the way home. I will keep you posted how it looks with bright sun shine.

Tecsolont
It doesn't have a security feature. If it is tampered with, it will lock out and you have to have a code to reactivate it. Or you have to call Eclipse to have them do it. To get this unit out, you have to remove the whole bottom of the dash. I don't think this would be an easy one to just take out. I guise if someone wanted it bad enough they would just cut it out. We just can't win.

Have a good day

Drove home last night with the top down and the navigation screen was crisp and clear. The sun was shining on it and I could still see it clear. There seems to be a tint on the screen and the colors are bright. I had no trouble seeing it at all. I did have a little trouble hearing the foxy lady telling me where to turn. I will have to find out how to turn that up.

We love it! This is the best mod we have done to our sky. The gps is crisp and clear even with the top down. We have watched a few DVDs and the picture and sound is fantastic. You can program up to 5 phones into bluetooth and the volume is great with the top up or down. I have a 2 gig usb card pluged into the usb cable that is in the glove box. It has about 15 cds on it and it sounds hot. We also had the backup camera mounted and its nice to have when backing out of my garage or backing into a parking spot. They also put the wires in our glove box for our digital video camera. When Pauline using the video camera, I can watch what she is recording on the screen or we can play back so everyone can see it. If you asked me to rate this product I would give it the highest score on the chart.

Thanks for your review SkyJack.  I don't suppose you have any pics of the car with the radio turned on do you?  Just curious to see it lit up in relation to the rest of the interior.

I will take some pictures asap. In the set up mode you can pick what color you want the lights in the buttons to be. I think they are red or blue. I picked red.

Here are some of the pictures of the eclipse turned on. Some in red and some in blue. Hope they help you in your quest for the best. We are very happy with this unit. We had ours installed in Winchester virginia.

SkyJack,

What is that last pic showing?  Does the face move out ?  For access to CD or ?  Hard to see back there...

Great pics!  Love that unit too!  Have been debating between Pioneer (cheapest) Kenwood (Garmin) and Eclipse (WOW)

Thanks for the info!

The face moves down and out to open for the cd / DVD and sd card slot. The sd card slot is for reprograming the gps with new roads and things. Our sky is a automatic so when the face moves down and out, it comes close to the shifter but will not touch it.

Hope this picture is better.

Thanks for the photo's SJack, that looks very nice in your dash when it's on.  One more question for you - Have you looked into the process to update the maps in the GPS?  Do you need to pay for updates, or is there a free web location to download them to the SD card?

Thanks again for posting the pics for us.

You do have to pay for the upgraded maps. There are no upgrades available at this time because It already has the most recent maps to date. I was told the upgrades will be around $50 to $100. Downloaded from there web sight to SD card. I forgot to tell you that the SD card slot is also used for photos. You can do a slide show or us a picture as your back ground on the sreen.

Hope this helps

Thanks again.  I always wondered if people had to pay for the SD upgrades like we do for the DVD style releases.  Even at $100 an upgrade is still less then half of what the upgrades cost for the GPS in our 300C.  (if you buy an original copy that is wink wink).

Kenwood updates cost $99
Pioneer Avic updates are $120
So they are all roughly the same price.

The Eclipse looks really nice in your car.  Congrats and enjoy!
