Going to try the new Dyno in Manassas
« on: August 03, 2009, 04:23:40 PM »
I am thinking in about 2 weeks I am going to try the new dyno in Manassas, very nice looking shop with a dedicated dyno room. $100 for 3 pulls with AFR data. If anyone wants to join me let me know, the date is flexible.

I'm interested. I'd like to see my hp/tq curves so I can crunch some numbers.

Plus, I'd also like to have a rough base of what my car is doing before I get a wester's tune.

JIM ,Will he give a lower rate for a group of so many cars. A shop in MT Airy has Dyno days if there so many cars they have a price and its cheaper for all attending the Group. I did it with the PT club it cost each of us 65.00 there were 8 cars

He does group stuff, no idea what he charges, if enough people are interested I will call him, he requires a $250 deposit for group runs. He only charges $75 a car if you don't want the AFR data. To me that is the most important part. That's what I send to Lyndon. He is used to tuning the rice rockets so he may be a good place for us. He also has the right kind of dyno, I don't like DynoJet or Mustang dyno's. I would love to find someone with a SuperFlow but I am glad to find one close by with a Dyno Dynamics.

Goat, just took a look at my finances, and this would have to take place on or after the 14th for me to participate.

I don't want a ton of people, makes for a long day. Prefer to keep this Kappa's. As far as the day, like I said it's flexible, so whenever. How is everyone on the 22. I will call the guy, I guess we have 6 now, that should be enough for a group rate.

I called and there minimum for a group is 10 cars, my son might come and that would be 7. It's $1000 to reserve the shop but we pretty much get unlimited runs. I will do whatever people want but 6 or 7 sounds good to me. There is a car show that starts about 3:00 every weekend right up the street from the shop, there is a good pizza place across the street, and the dyno shop sits between two gun stores so plenty to do.

Try reading what I wrote again, if you do the group rate it is a 10 car MINIMUM for $1000, and you get unlimited pulls not just 3. He closes the dyno to anyone else all day. It only makes sense if you have more than 10. I don't really want to do that song and dance, been there done that. It was a pain in the a$$. We are at 7 now with Nolanb, that is enough. I don't want to spend all day at the dyno waiting for my turn, I know no one does. Three pulls is enough for me.

Here is the pain at a dyno day say someone does 6 pulls, do they pay more? Or does everyone split it equally. I don't know this guy yet, I am willing to put up $100 myself and see what we find out. If after we go the first time we want to do a dyno day, then maybe.

So, do we need to talk to the shop and sign up individually, or you going to sign us all up Goat? How's this going to work?

As everyone's plans change now I will begin the sign up sheet. I will call them and give them a number later this week, here is the list as I stands now. Let me know if you still plan to attend, these folks have confirmed.

and then there were 5, anyone can come, just show up if you can, I need a rough idea to let them know but I am sure they will take care of anyone who shows up. $75 for a basic 3 runs, $100 for 3 runs with AFR read out. I know I want the AFR to send to Lyndon, and I bet Critter wants it to send to Dr. Love and the Smooth Criminal.

do you need AFR from the dyno? can't you get it from HP Tuners?

HP Tuners gives you the commanded AFR, the sniffer in the pipe gives you the real deal. I am sure there is some way to get the AFR from the O2 sensors as well, but I am not sure I will be able to do scans as I am not allowed in the dyno room during runs in this shop. Actual AFR's are always helpful, Lyndon used them a lot when we were developing the first race tune.

Yea $25 for AFR seems outrageous to me, stick a sniffer up a pipe with a bungee, unless he has something better. The guy we used to go to it was included on every run, but he charged $100 for 3 runs, so all in all this guys is cheaper if you don't want the AFR.
