Topic: New JPM steel shift knob

what kind of turn around time do you have on the steel with the knob on the bottom? it's $90?

It will fit on the new shifter I bought? without the collar right?

I can usually get a knob out within a week to week and a half.  Price is $90 plus $5 shipping.  If it's just a knob, I'll probably have it drop shipped from my machinist so it takes less time since I don't have to package it with a boot or anything.

It will fit all JPM shifters if you take the collar piece off.  I'm not certain about the boot fitting properly though.  I'm not sure what goat had to do to make his boot fit correctly.

The boot is a little tight but it will stretch, we may want to make adjustments at the mod meet, but they will be minor. I took the boot off, turned it inside out and pointed it down, held the knob in my hand pushed the base of the knob through the hole gently as far as it would go. Then I took a 1" o-ring from Lowe's plumbing department (faucet repair parts) and put it around the boot and knob so it fit in the slot in the knob to hold the boot in place. Held the knob and turned the boot right side out, now the boot is attached to the knob. Fit the hole in the boot over the shaft (there is excess boot) hold the knob and set the ring in place. Now gently grip the boot from the outside and start threading the knob on while holding the boot to keep it from turning, easier than it sounds. Turn the knob until it bottoms out and go for a drive. I think the o-ring works really well but if it was just a little thinner it would work better, I am thinking one of the cheap key rings like the dealer tags your keys with might work if it was the right size.

thanx, just called Joe and placed my order for one without the collar as i already have the shifter. Cant wait to compare the difference in feel. I also think the finish i chose will compliment my car's midnight blue color too.

You can chrome anything.  I doubt we'll offer it as an option because we'd have to do a batch order to make it worth while.  Otherwise, you'd have one expensive knob unless you know a chrome guy that's willing to throw it in the vat with some other stuff.

As for the boot, yeah, that's not a problem.  I just have to make an adjustment to the pattern.

FYI though, you can get just standard steel knob without the piece that goes down on the JPM shifter assembly.  Unless you want the extra .2lbs, the one goat bought and the one we usually sell with the assembly are pretty much the same except the collar is not attached to the knob in our standard assembly.

I like the look of the extended collar.  Gives it a more substantial look.

i just got mine in the mail today and i must agree with LG, it is way smoother. i haven't been able to drive it yet. i did however spin it on and play shifted(with sound effects  )  the inertia helps glide it into gear. i should be able to go drive tomorrow to find out for myself. the quality is superb and the finish(flamed blue) looks better than i imagined. great work.

well took her for a spin.....1st to 2nd gear grind - pretty much gone, shift are smoother and the shifter feels like it finds the gears better. the flame color really compliments the silver accents of the sky and my midnight blue color.

Did you get the one with the "neck" on the bottom or without. I'm about to order but I'm not sure if my current JCM leather boot will fit?

i already had the jpm shifter so i asked for just the ball. It is still hugely heavier and sits just as low. I didn't get the one with the collar, just because i didn't want to firg around with the boot and/or trim ring. i will try to post a pic tonight.

I am still very happy with mine funny something so simple can work so well. I actually like the feel of the steel too, it is silky feeling hard to explain.

I got to go out and pound the pavement today, really test the new knob out, I am even more impressed. Seems to make our clunky tranny just slide into gear. I missed no shifts, usually miss one or two in a run like today's. It is a huge improvement on downshifting, I guess this inertia thing really works. It makes the shifter seem lighter not heavier. I like it a lot more than I did before, and I liked it before.

I've been practicing my 1/4 times and logging them via Dynolicious.
I keep fumbling a shift so having something help out will be awesome.
