$850 for the big wheel compressor turbo (with core swap) and $300 for the tune. Keep in mind you need to have the other supporting mods to make that power.

Sorry, but I don't consider an upgraded turbo a "bolt on". I consider bolt on's to be basic mods, and easily done with minimal work by non-knowledgable people. For example, I wouldn't call upgrading cams or pistons bolt on upgrades either. It is pretty easy to start getting above 300 rwhp with bigger turbo's (which the upgraded K04 essentially is, if a small amount larger).

So as far as I've seen, no one has gone above 300rwhp with basic bolt ons (or without a turbo upgrade).

You are right, I am not sure if you read the other part with the car we had at 295 at the wheels on a street tune. We did not tune that one on the dyno, and never touched any of the timing, but getting 5 extra hp on a dyno tune on that car would not have been very hard. That car had the stock turbo on it, and even stock downpipe with the stock cat and was only at 21 psi. We are getting that car back in the future and can take it to the dyno and bump the pressure and timing a little and push it over 300whp. Also give it a cooler day then the 80+ degree day that we ran that dyno and the extra 5hp would be there. You are correct though, right now we have not done over 300whp on the dyno, just really close

and that was with just bolt on - intercooler, intake, tubes, exhaust and tune.

5hp isn't much. but 50 torques is! if the big wheel is responsible for 50 torques it could definitely be worth it.

The catless downpipe also helps with that and is a nice addition also, but yes the extra torque down low is a good thing

Remember it is a system that we are dealing with and just adding one thing without looking at the rest of the system does not yield the best results, take a look at the entire system and make it all work together for best results.

We all know that the other mods are needed for big power, so there is really no need to discuss/argue about them.

Pretty much every highly modded car has the same mods. IC, Intake, charge pipes, Catless or Hi Flow Cat, Exhaust. There doesn't seem to be much variation between these items in terms of how much performance they deliver.

So there are major 3 variables: bigger turbo, bigger wheel, tune.

I, and I assume most others who have been discussing this for so long, just wants to know which deliver the most bang for the buck, or how little they can spend to get to the desired power level reliably. The results seem scattered out there.

The last part of your post is the right question to ask, and that is what power level do you want, and what is your definition of reliable? Then you can make a game plan from there. If you want 300 at the wheels the stock turbo will deliver it with supporting mods, or get you really, really close. If you want 350hp, even the upgraded wheel is not going to do it for you, you need to look at swapping the turbo to a larger unit, with some more exhaust flow. So what power level do you want to make? What have you done already?

I shouldn't have used the word reliable. I meant consistently.

There's been a lot of discussion about the wheel and some people say it gets X and others Y and others say it does nothing and others say BTF got it to 400HP bla bla bla. We just want a clear answer!

I have no idea how much power I want. The only way to tell is to drive someone's car that has it. Can you bring some to the mod meet

FYI, I had my car dyno tuned in FL and got 299whp on a dynojet. The problem with dynojets, at least for autos, is that they can only capture a portion of your run so it never captured my true torque numbers because where they began capturing the data was much further down the rpm band.

Then took the car back home and dynoed on a dyno dynamics and initially got 290whp but then did some more fine tuning and got the dyno below.

Made a ton of torque down low then steadily lost it up the power band and barely eeked out 300whp.

I've still got an instore credit at my local shop so now that I have DDMs new IC and CAI I'll probably go back and utilizing the 2.23 beta from HPT try and boost a little more and see what I come up with. But like Dave said, the turbo is about at its limit so I really don't expect to see much of a difference. I'll post the results when I do it. I have to check to make sure they have the beta first and go from there.

Also Dave. I'd also like to know which of the mods really make the largest percentage of power. I'm very curious what a larger turbo on a completely stock car would do. I know that getting every single mod can't hurt, but if I can direct my money to the most effective parts, I'd prefer that. I can't just dump 10 grand on every aftermarket part at one shot ya know!

here is the dyno sheet from my car also w/ a big wheel and supporting mods(check sig). similar setup to BSRL. using modified(by Randy of DDM) westers tune and working one a new one now...

1st run...this was a starting point.

255 whp. @ 19 lbs max boost.

The graph is so smooth. It looks great. It just keeps climbing.

Next run in 10 mins. Just got the updated tune.

Also, it was a 3rd gear pull.

They do not know where to hookup the wire to read the torque values

If they are using a dynojet, we usually hook up on the wires coming out of the coil pack on #1 cylinder. There are 3 wires and if they use the inductive pickup wrapped around all 3 wires it will pick up the tach signal. Then just make sure that in the software they have it set to 1 fire every 720 degrees, otherwise you will read double the RPM's.
