Buick LNF rumor
« on: September 03, 2009, 02:50:29 PM »
Foremost, I will NOT divulge where I got this tidbit.

There may be a Buick Gran Sport hitting their showrooms sometime in CY 2010. And it will have the LNF engine. With Wilmington closed, we can assume what it WON'T be. I wonder if it will be a rebadged Cobalt or maybe the Cobalt replacement. Maybe a Pontiac front driver? HAs anybody heard anything more solid?

As stout as our engines are, I'd think it could be almost anything. I still say GM ought to put one in a pickup and see how it does.

If true, a wise move by GM as the LNF Engine is proven and also the mpg is in the ball park.  I just wish it was Pontiac and not Buick!  Remember, the Chinese like the Buick.

I don't think this would be a good idea... Old men who drive buicks are going to break their backs and hips getting in and out of a kappa

Honestly, it looks like it has more in common with the new Camaros than a Kappa.

Hmm...and GM did say they were thinking about putting the LNF in them at one point in time...

I just looked at it again... are the 3/4 shot and the side shot even the same car? look at the b-pillar and back glass.

I was speaking more of the 3/4 shot, but yes, that side shot looks more like a camaro...

Looks like the back end of an old Buick Riviera.  Maybe GM is counting on those "old guys" being blind too.

I can see the ads for it now.  Just when you though the designers of the Aztec were now employed by the "bad" GM they go and completely redeem themselves.  Talk about reinvention.

Who is going to build the Kappa with Wilmington closed?  Since it is pretty much hand built, there is a whole lot of equipment to build.  Who is going to build the LNF with Spring Hill closed?  LNF is dead.  I wish it weren't true but, while they hopefully will redeploy the technology, I doubt we will see the LNF and a Kappa.

If you look through the rear window there are 4 headrests. Looks like a coupe (a la Camaro).

You know, I see enough young people running around in Buicks. Granted, these cars are certainly past their prime.

Also, cars like the Regal GNX were hardly "Old Fogey" cars.

Not one to start rumors but I heard yesterday..............................

The kappa may not be dead, negotiations are in place to sell the rights and lease the plant.

It may all just be wishfull thinking, or there could be some meat on those bones.

negotiations are in place to sell the rights and lease the plant.

To who? I'd rather they die gracefully than be sold to a Japanese or Chinese company that will let them linger on as shadows of their former selves...

Now, if only Penske would buy them...

Critterman, that would be great news, about like returning from the dead!  Can you imagine after all that has been said by all of us on this forum and others and now to think that the Kappa may indeed live?  Well, the economy is showing signs of life, and that must happen in greater detail for an increase in appitite for Roadsters and Coupes.  The plant is very old but if the right buyer pulls the trigger and decides to go forward, all I can say is "have at it"!

I don't know to be honest.  I just know that there are some people who worked there, and had made plants to retire or move across country to work in another plant, changed those plans and are staying put.  I just heard this yesterday and I am trying to find out more.
