I went onto the DL site, and sent them the following e-mail. Don't know that it will do any good, but it can't hurt!
Dear Sirs:
I am the owner of a 2007 Solstice GXP, SCCA member, and Global Moderator of the Kappa Performance message board, an online community of performance-oriented Solstice and Sky enthusiasts. All of us in the Kappa community were distressed beyond words to learn of the closure of the Wilmington DE Kappa plant, and GM's abandonment of this innovative marque. We were heartened beyond measure to hear rumors and rumblings of your companies possible interest in reviving the Kappa platform.
The Kappa is the right car at exactly the right time. As many of us who have prepared our GXPs and Redlines for competition and high performance street driving can attest, the forced induction 2.0 LNF EcoTec direct cylinder injected, variable valve timing engine brings together state of the art efficiency and potential for extraordinary performance in one package. It produces the highest hp per cubic inch of displacement of any production motor ever offerred by a US car maker.
Mated to a state of the art hydroformed chassis, with double wishbone coilover suspension, and decent brakes, lighter wheels and good tires, the handling qualities of the car equals or exceeds many far more expensive marques, including the Porsche Boxter. There is a robust aftermarket of talented engineers and fabricators who have developed components that further improve the Kappa's already credible box stock handling characteristics, and most Kappa owners I know enjoy customizing their vehicles to make them suit their individual requirements.
The elegant, sexy design of the bodywork of the Sol is a modern refined expression of the classic roadster, and the short-lived Coupe (upon which your company is considering building) further refined those design cues. But the Kappa, like the DeLorean of yore, is a uniquely American expression of those classics.
In short, this is a niche brand and platform with thousands of passionate enthusiasts. The Sol never got a fair shake from the automotive press, nor enough time to shake out a few kinks that can be expected from the way it was designed and engineered by GM.
The Wilmington plant is a state of the art facility, and, as many of us know from visits to what we call "Mecca," its workforce is dedicated and skillful. They are as proud to build Kappas as we are to drive them.
If you proceed and build the coupe we have seen in the press, I can pledge personally to put a deposit on one, assuming you do not change the price point drastically.
An affordable, high performance, efficient and beautiful American sports car like the Kappa is not available from anyone else. This is a great oppoprtunity for the rebirth of DeLorean marque.
Seize the day!
Ben Lambiotte
