I've been looking at underhood lighting options as well but I am not sure that subjecting a LED module that is not waterproof to that environment is such a good idea.
The heat's probably not good either. I had put two of the same babies I had in my lower trunk light under the hood. Despite hardly ever using them (they are tied to
both the sidelights and a mercury switch, so don't just go on when you raise the hood) I've had three burn out, and I've given up with them. On the other hand, the in the trunk (pictured), which gets used regularly, was the original and still works fine. I assume it has to do with the heat in the engine bay even though the LEDs are inset in a chunk of aluminum. Go figger.
