I 1st say run whatever oil & filter you like. I been running Amsil 0w-30 SSO (Signature Series Oil) & Ea filters for 5+ yrs. now. In 3 turbo charge cars, G/F's stock 05 Subaru Impreza WRX with 107000 + miles, my modded 05 Subaru Legacy GT with 138000 + miles & my modded 07 GXP with 47000 + miles. Sense Amsoil  don't make a Ea filter for the GXP. I use wix or NAPA Gold, which get changed out when the oil life reads 50% Other then that, my OCI is 15000 miles. 5yrs, 292000 miles later, all car had no lubrication failures & still running strong.The GT still hit peak boost of 16.2 psi.the GXP 23psi and the WRX unknown, no gauge she like her car stock. love that about her. More $$$$$ for mine.  Amsoil 0w-30 my cost is only 7.50qt. IMO the best oil ever made to date.

 Not SSO, do not know what you mean. The name of there top oil is 0w-30 SSO (Signature Series Oil). Really not concern if it's not recommended in modified vehicles. Far as motor mods goes, just air intake & ECU re-tunes. It show the least wear in the 4-ball wear test (AMST D-4172) Click on link below.

Personally I'd follow the oil life monitor.

Yes I read that. That's why I done OA's on my Subaru's. They come back come "oil is suitable of continued use".
Good enough for me, it's all personal choice.

Yes it is a personal choice as are all the mods we choose to do on our car. It seems though that GM has not drank the  Amsoil Koolaid.

Open element air filters tend to ingest and read OA results with higher silicone content. This goes into the oil and builds up overtime, especially extended range oil changes.

I get a chuckle at the OA that require a filter change or the owner tops between changes. Sure, the sample is going to look good0you've just diluted with fresh oil.

Why would we need to add any oil between changes on our cars?
I sure as heck don't?  My engine doesnt use any oil that I can really measure going 10K between changes and changing the filter at 5K.  The filter is a cartridge that is on top of the engine so most of it's oil drains back down into the engine.  Also by the time I change out the filter after letting it drain there's less than 4 oz of oil left on the filter.  Last time I changed the oil almost all the oil was there since it filled the 5th bottle to the 24oz mark.
Even on my 03 Ford truck that has a huge oil filter I don't add any oil between filter changes stick still shows oil in the cross hatch area albeit just below the the middle of the cross hatch area so down about 12oz from the original 6qts.

Not Ecotec related but if you own Honda 3.5 of certain years the vehicle will not make it between changes if oil is not added.

It seems thought that GM has not drank the Amsoil Koolaid.

They were more interested in the steak and potatoes menu...





... so they extended their advertising agreement with Mobil 1.
Their Corvettes had Mobil 1 written on the oil cap since the '90's.
Got it stamped right there on the kappa turbo engine oil caps now.
Prefer Royal Purple so replaced the OEM advertising part
with a nice clean new perfect-fit 5W -30 GM cap;
originally manufactured for a Saturn SC2, 1.9L.
After about the first year of use or 30K miles or so
all the early Saturns drank about a quart of oil every 3,000+ miles.
Those S-Series Saturns were all spec'd for the same SAE 5W - 30.
The Honda 3.5L vteks GM used in the '04 - '07 Saturn VUEs
specify 5W - 20. The oil life monitor in them was not as sophisticated
as the system developed for our nice ecotecs,
so changed synth oil @ 5K miles and ignored the 3.5 OLM.

i was getting oil for my beater and i noticed royap purple had 5-30 that was like only a dollar or 2 over the price of mobil1.... i had thought that usually they go by letters.....is this the same as the RP "xpr" others are talking about? I am thinking it isn't as usually RP is way more per qt than mobil1 correct? if its different, anyone know if its just as good or better than mobil1?......
