Topic: Solstice truly comparable to a Corvette??

This question begs elaboration. As in what are you comparing it to? Apples Oranges...? To many different catagories to compare to. Let's consider a few.

Styling: I think that the Solstice holds it own there, and is every bit as stylish as a Vette.
Luxury: The Vette wins hands down, but at twice or more the cost, and with a dash kit, and some JPM refinements the Solstice can look pretty sharp.
Cost: The Solstice wins here, because of value per dollar. 260 hp for $30k Vs 400 hp for $65k
Speed: No contest. The Vette is a world class speedster, and stock 198 mph is allot faster then 147 mph.
Handling: Hard to say, but I would pit my GXP with the ZOK suspension against any Vette any day in the twisty's.
Sex Appeal: Toss up. I get just as many looks at the stoplights as a Vette. Maybe more..... :
Uniqueness: (Is that a word?) I see Vettes all day long on Socals roads, but it's only once in a blue moon that I see a Kappa.

Well, my initial intention was just to spark some good conversation about how one would compare a high $$ sports coupe to a low-mid $$ sports coupe. I guess I didn't expect such a varied response on it, but I must say, wow, awesome topic for discussion.

When I think about comparison here, I guess I would have to go with what was the intention of GM to steer a potential Solstice buyer towards a Corvette? They are nowhere close in terms of MSRP, and quite honestly, they are two different monsters. If one was to ignore price, then perhaps I can see. But, is this GM's way of upselling, or is it basically "Sorry guys, we don't make a good, low buck fun car anymore, here's your next best hope with GM. Please buy it."?

Ignoring sticker shock, I think the Vette and Solstice could be comparable in terms of all around enjoyment of the experience of each car. The Vette has a V8, and mounds of power, but the Sol is very unique looking and still has good power for a 4cyl. They are both two seaters, both come in coupe and convertible, and both are very fun to drive (from what I understand about the Vette, unfortunately never driven one). The Sol though gets (in my opinion) the most looks by at least a margin of 2 to 1. Why? Because it's rare. There isn't 50 years worth of Sol out there on the roads, and there are very few cars that even come close to the unique design of the Sol.

So, in the end....I would say they are comparable.....if you ignore the MSRP. If you are in the market, however, for a low buck fun sports car to drive, sorry, but the Vette is not your cup of tea.
