Bob, if he tried to sell them publically as in a "business" there would be issues with copyright. But if he were to make it for a few "buddies" within a car club environment... on say a "special order" basis through "word of mouth"... there shouldn't be any problems with the trademark. It's when you mass produce something and openly try to sell them that you run into problems.

Get my drift?

Yeah, tell that to the people the NFL told to stop making "who dat" shirts...

If it's illegal, it's illegal. I don't want any of our vendors getting into trouble.

I am still trying to convince our forum vendor (vendor #1) to go forward with the sills and make blank inserts.  Or maybe some form of CNC milled texturing. I was out at his place last week, and saw the metal for the prototypes.  A lot of that would end up as aluminum chips after the CNC machine was through, but they would have been super nice.

I will observe that the licensee vendor # 2's red hot enthusiasm to bring a licensed counterpart product to market (I cannot imagine that it would have been as nicely engineered or fabricated as vendor #1's) went ice cold as soon as vendor #1 pulled the plug on his.

Leading this potential door sill customer to wonder whether that sudden flash of enthusiasm was less about a desire to meet demand with a quality licensed product, than plain old c**k blocking a superior product. Yes, yes, all perfectly legal . . . . but still.

Vendor # 2's were supposed to be ready by Christmas. And here we are.

Ben I hope Larry does go ahead with it and for a milled billet part I wouldn't care about a logo. God knows that most of us have more than enough logos on our cars already.

If there was a blank insert then an individual could get what even he felt like blasted into the piece at his or her local water jet shop. Larry wasn't going to be able to do the water jet work anyway.

Just the fact that this thread is still active speaks to the fact that there is interest in a quality part and not one stamped out of sheet metal.
Just trying to do my part...

Let's see, we could all have or forum names in them - no licence required
Something generic - please wipe your feet - no license
or something equally generic like:  Turbo, Supercharged, natural breather  :)

Exactly
Had a artist do a large HD Bar & Shield logo on my Harley Truck bed cover.  Took it down to the local HD dealership since they had a grand reopening and some big wigs from HD were there.  They asked who did the cover and I told them and they said he did a great job and that they thought it was a decal instead of painted on.  Looks good they said really compliments the truck.  Then I showed them the custom Harley intake tube and they were just like WOW keep up the good work.  By the way this guy does alot of airbrush HD logos and one off or limited art pieces.
So as long as it "custom" and a very limited run you can get by.

Nice Larry! Given any more thought to making a billet sill for the Solstice and Sky? Most of us that are looking for replacement sills are looking for a quality part that isn't just stamped out of a thin piece of stainless steel.

That part that you have been working on really looks pretty cool but I don't recognize it. May I ask what it is? Looks like a hinge of some sort...  :idk:

Oh Sly Bob, you don't recognize a custom brake/clutch assy?  I think the door sills are history, but maybe on the 5th friday of the month under a full moon, and you know the password and secret handshake..........

The is a hinge for the Roadsters. Good guess. Now that you mention it, I can turn it in to a toilet paper holder easy enough :urock:

I have the meterial as Ben said, at least for 2 sets. Let me see what I can come up with.

Please do so, Larry.  Folks are still obviously interested in the high quality (if non-logoed) alternative.  Hey, I know, how about "Casey Designs" in the insert?  That solves a bunch of problems.

And remember who's got dibs on the prototypes and how long I had to drive around with no door sill. . . .

Just kidding of course as you two are friends and I know you did give it up for the cause with your donation of a door sill as you live close by.

Larry, I and everyone else looks forward to what you come up with. Although I haven't looked at my sills for a while as the car is in storage for the winter, I have no doubt that at least one of the inserts in the plastic factory sills will be warped yet again in the spring.

Some might like a CASEYDESIGN insert, maybe a DDMWORKS or a SOLO insert. TURBO, SUPERCHARGED and others have been suggested. Or just a blank one so we can get our own cut out. Maybe no insert at all?

I am kidding too, Bob.  I think the reason why there is enough material for two sets is that you obviously should get one.  But if he messes one set up, well them, it will be up to Larry, won't it.  Seriously, I can wait.
