Today I installed the Trunk Spring mod
About 10 minutes later, when I was working on the jeep, I heard a snap

I must have drilled a hole either a little of center or too big because the one side snapped below the new hole
So now I have a non working trunk.
Will have to find out how much those parts are.
 :banghead:

Elff,
If there is any way you can get it open to take pics...  I just did that mod myself and hope I didn't make the same mistake!  Good luck with your repair!

I did it (the mod) without drilling a hole.  I had to open up the end of the spring a little but then hooked it around the torsion spring between the flat plate and the right-angle bend of the torsion spring.  No way it can slide off.

Bummer,

Find yourself a good welder, should be able to fix that.  The drill bit I used was just a hair larger than the spring.

Nice work Sly!  New interface module do the trick?  Not to tough to swap out?

How does the push to talk button work?  Good placement?

Good things come to those that wait.  Don't take GJ up on his offer the intercooler DDM uses flows twice as much air.  Don't worry you will have a black and blue right arm soon enough.

Black and Blue,  A condition cause by the other half beating on you repeadedly while you slide around corners and head for mailboxes.

Usually accompanied by a loud uncontrolled scream

Glad you explained that  I was trying to figure out how I was going to get that Black & Blue arm.

Yesterday I washed the Sol, took the top off & me & the wife had a great day arround town.
Today I cleaned/straightened up the garage to make more room to work arround the car when the time comes.

GJ, thanks for the offer buddy but I better wait, plus I don't have any pink paint right now. Althuogh I suppose there might be some left over at Joe's, I could pick it up this weekend.

Elff, find a thick washer that fits over the bar and then have it welded to the hook.  Done...

Oh yeah the new steering wheel interface worked great! Not difficult at all to swap out as there is a plug on one end and a single wire at the other end to solder. The position of the talk button is perfect too. My thumb finds it easily when the need arises without searching for it. That was a good idea to put it there Steve.

Joe,
I'll have to give that a shot.
Only problem is figuring out how my welder friend can get his big ol stomach out of the way so he can weld in that area.
He is not a small person
 :D

Fortunately everything works, i just have to hold the trunk open.
I'd suggest the non drilling solution to people wanting to do this mod.
At least in my case, it was fairly easy to goof
 :(

Just got the price for a replacement hinge.
it's only $25 so I'm just going to replace it.  No need to take the chance with welding in such a small area when the cost to replace is so cheap.

Are you talking trunk hinge?  That is very reasonable.  I need the rubber plug out of your old one.

Yup
That whole assembly is one piece. As such, I was a little worried that it was going to be expensive, but apparently not.
Crate Engine Depot is hooking me up again.

No Problem on the Plug.  Once I get it repaired, I'll mail it or see you at Wall NJ for the Formula D event.

You know the one I am talking about correct, the stop for the hinge movement.  It is the only way you can get it by buying the hinge.  Best price I got was around 40 bucks.

I'm not 100% sure and drove the jeep today so I can't run out and look.  But if it's on the hinge, I'll have a spare once I replace it.

I instructed defensive driving school with a local car club. It mostly included teens and older drivers. Then we setup a 50 auto cross course for timed events. I finished 1st in the domestic class and 3rd 1.7 seconds back to a C32 AMG and a C63 AMG. I was on snow tires.  :)

After washing and waxing my wife's Murano (I know who butters the bread, if you know what I mean!), washed and waxed mine then mounted splash guards.  Sick of scraping tar off the sides.
