DDM Hood Light - add a mecury switch
« on: November 23, 2009, 08:26:14 PM »
What do you think about this switch.

http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B001TWQ0KC/ref=pd_lpo_k2_dp_sr_1?pf_rd_p=486539851&pf_rd_s=lpo-top-stripe-1&pf_rd_t=201&pf_rd_i=B0002ZPBKM&pf_rd_m=ATVPDKIKX0DER&pf_rd_r=1J34786EQP9D0JD0HRJF

I may get a few to set up with the hood light so when you open the hood it'll turn on the  light.

Depends on if you will see the lights flickering with acceleration / deceleration or if you mind the lights being on if you park it on too much of an incline.  LED's don't draw too much power, so it's not like battery drain would be a concern...

That is the exact mercury switch I used.  Works like a charm.  I put it in a spot where it only turns on when the hood is almost all the way open.

Deep:

Shipping charges were way too high at Amazon.  I'm going to try and find a tilt switch locally.  Should be available in automotive parts houses, hardware stores or electrical supply houses.

I kinda like the magnetic reed switch that JonyMac used... avoids "sloshing" flickering on acceleration.

What type of switch is used for the stock trunk light?  Would it work under the hood?

The trunk light switch is integral to the trunk latch (similar to the door / dome light switches).

I will post a photo with the location I used for the mercury switch once I get back from holiday vacation.
