DC...are you selling your rear upgraded sway?  If so I might buy it from you and have DDM put it on.
I'm installing Z0Ks on both ends; the rear bar that will be available is a stock GXP.  (Free to anyone at the meet)

Airline Tickets have been purchased!!!!!  Yippeeeeeeeeee!

Here is the itinerary:

Date Flight From To Stops

21-Apr-2010 965 SAN DIEGO, CA (SAN) 05:35 PM SAN FRANCISCO, CA (SFO) 07:10 PM 0
21-Apr-2010 86 SAN FRANCISCO, CA (SFO) 09:40 PM WASHINGTON, DC (IAD) 05:45 AM 0
26-Apr-2010 67 WASHINGTON, DC (IAD) 07:00 AM SAN DIEGO, CA (SAN) 12:25 PM 1

Any chance anyone might be nearby at either of these two times?  If not, what might a taxi cost to get closer to someone?  rent a car?  any thoughts?

Would love to get picked up in a limo if that can be arranged...  Just kidding.  But if I do get picked up in a convert, I will need to know so I can pack accordingly :)  I don't think it will be as big a deal if it is a coupe. :yay:

I know it is still a ways off, but the ticket prices were very resonable (about 250) so I sealed it.

Thanks for the help in advance,

GJ

BWI would have gotten you a lot closer to Joe's you are about 120 miles away at Dulles, (IAD) I work near there but not sure what I would do with you after I picked you up, I won't be going over to Joe's until Thursday night at the earliest and I already have a passenger. I would say if you can switch to BWI and rent a car, you will be a lot better off.

I know there is an inter airport shuttle that runs to all three airports and downtown.  the problem is your arrival time and that you are comming into Dulles. On a map it would look something like this:

                       Dulles
                                                                           BWI

                                                       Washington DC

                                Regan National Airport

                                                                                        nowhere

                                                                                                 Ludsby MD -Joe's

Now because of the hour and depending on how adventurous you are and you pack light you would be getting in on Thurday morning ar roughly 6 am.  If no one can get you there then you could spend the day using the transit system to get closer to Joe's where someone could pick you up.  Between Shuttles, busses, trains, subway's and commuter lines you could make it all the way to Pax River which is where Joe works.  :)

But I am sure you don't want to do that.  I hadn't planned on going down Thursday nite and still haven't made reservations in the area, but if you can make it over to the Maryland side of DC,  I would pick you up after work and run you down there.  Probably sometime in the early afternoon.

that's pretty impressive Critter, but there needs to be at least 2 clustertrucks and several circles loopy loo's, and a couple of u turns between Dulles and Joe's. Sorry I can't be more help, a rental is your best bet AND A REALLY REALLY GOOD MAP.

That was hysterical!  I actually was looking for one of the other airports, but every flight was $100 more expensive.  I can rent a Fiat for the 4 days for that.  (PS- Fiat owns Chrysler, so yes, I can :) )

I had spoken with Joe and volunteered to help with set up and tear down/ clean up since it was going to be easier to fly on weekdays anyway.  If noone is nearby, I can just rent a car or perhaps a segway.  I called a taxi company, but they said they don't send their taxi's past "Nowhere MD", so Joe's house was too far :)

GJ - there is also Regan National, and Dulles international.  we have members living near all three, but sometimes there is a big difference in fares from the left coast.

Hey Critter- I started thinking when I was reading what a pain in the rump Dulles is going to be "hmmm, someone actually suggested I look at the other airports... who was that?"  Oh, yeah, it was YOU!  :poke:

Jeeze, thanks for the help....

Okay, GJ, the problem is the time you arrive.   The start of rush hour and even veteran LA freeway drivers tremble when faced with the DC beltway during rush hour.  You will be inbound with rush hour traffic from the airport.  (see first picture).  Once you hit the beltway you have roughly half the beltway in either direction to get to the Exit to Joe's house.  (see pictures 2 & 3).   You will enter the beltway from the upper left (rt267) and exit on the lower right (MD 4).  Depending on traffic this could be a couple of hours or longer.  Once you get on 4 you will be going against the inbound traffic, but you are probably still 80 - 90 minutes from Joe's.

By the way Dulles is about 2-3" of the left of the map and Joe's 5-6" off the right.  I will see if I can find you a real map.

Susan, What are you going to do with him after you pick him up, take him to Arlington?

Critter, I corrected your mistake:

I changed my flight.  Thanks Go-n-Def.  I will now be flying in to Dubai on Thursday, renting a boat there and heading for Cairo.  From Cairo it should be a short ride to Nowhere, where someone can swing by and pick me up on their way by.  Phew, glad to have that worked out.

Flight changes are $75 bucks, which isn't bad.  The problem is Virgin doesn't fly to any of the other airports in / around DC/ Baltimore.  So I am in a pickle.  I could cancel and see what else is available.  Still plenty of time.
Thursday I have plenty of time to get to Joe's.  My concern would be Monday morning- how bad would traffic be if I left Joe's house at 3am? To get to IAD at 5 am for a 7am flight?  Two things went in to that choice- I didn't realize it was 2 plus hours to IAD AND I am supposed to attend a dinner Monday night, so getting back a 1 pm was good.  I could miss it.  Cha cha cha cha changes....  (man, I am a worse singer in "type" than in real life, and I am REALLY bad in real life... better not do that again)

Personally I'd stick with your flights.  BWI is only 15 mins or so closer to Joe's, though it does have the advantage of little traffic if you stay off 95 and 495 and go back roads - but then you'll lose back the 15mins.  National is also 15-20mins closer, but in the center of town and I think the traffic would still be nearly as bad.

Get a rental car and just suck up the road delays :)

As for the return, you should be fine at 3am.  None of our illustrious govenmint works are up that early!

Yeah, that was my thought when I booked too.  I checked Hertz to see if the HTZ Corvette was available- NONE!  Apparently, they don't rent them to those Governmnet types... oh well.  Chevy Aveo it is.

I live 55 miles from Joe's, it takes an hour.   I live 11 miles from BWI it takes 15 minutes.  If you decide to rent a car at Dulles, I would kill time in the area by going to the Air and Space museum which is near Dulles, and then leaving mid day to head for Joe's.  Leave on the 15's or 45's not the 30's of 60's.  minutes that is, it seems to make a difference.  Figure at least 3 hours even with directions because with only 3 roads to take until you get to Lusby, you can still get lost.  And once you get into his neighborhood you are going to have to hire a guide.

On the way back you shouldn't start hitting traffic until around 4:30 am and you should be going against it.   Good thing is you can take the toll road for free since you are coming or going to the airport.
