I did the opposite... I pulled the pins from the connector, cut off the wire right at the pin, and soldered the extension wire directly to the pin at one end and the other end to the cut wire. (I opened and reused the insulation clamp arms on each pin.)

I had to do mine the way I did b/c I mounted the relays to the seat frames

Who?  Me?
Yes, you!

It's *possible* but it would be a real pain in the a$$ to get the wires into the doors.  Light gauge wires would potentially add too much resistance to the circuits.  That being the case, your heaters either wouldn't work well, or it might cause the insulation on the wires to melt... then you have REAL problems :gaah:
Aah good points; thank you for the info.  Now back to the dash-mounted switches... they really do look great.

Has it gotten so warm in Canada now that you need seat coolers?  Global warming I can't believe that Al Gore was right. Actually I can't believe I typed that last sentence with a straight face, oh wait no I didn't.

Critterman how hard was it to get the switches in that spot?  Did you take the dash a part?

thanks

Don't know, Scott had pulled the dash boomarang, center console, upper center console/lower dash, radio, kick panels right and left side, both seats, retainer ring around the shifter, and I think that was it, before we even started.  I did do one seat (well the bottom) all by myself :)

took a couple of pictures and added to this email.  Not real happy with the power outlet, but couldn't find anywhere esle to put it.

You have to pull the pannel from around the gear leaver.  To pull that you have to pull the bomarang.  There is a panel behind that panel that you have to drill as well.  If you are brave I guess you could do it without pulling the panel.

You also have to pull the radio and the panel under the steering wheel.  I did both GXPs the same way last weekend.

I didn't get them there but I have the same one, with the large order you guys can get an even better price going direct. This is from
http://www.heatedseatkits.com/faq.html Check question 10 in the FAQ.

I found a website that sells the same product for less, can you match it?

Yes. Because we at HeatedSeatKits.com are the national distributors for seat heaters, if you find a price lower than ours for the same product, we will gladly match that price and discount the item to 15% off the competitors price.

That would knock it down to $51 each and they do free shipping. Might do even better if someone calls them. I only need one.

Being from Canada, the shipping charges and extra fees with UPS are always a frustration. I've been trying to get ahold of "HeatedSeatKits.com" for almost 2 weeks now as they claim they can ship Canadian orders from Canada to save fees, they claim to have a great price match policy, and they claim that their "Customer Service is the fundamental value of the organization"..... and yet they don't return phone calls or e-mails.
Oh well, I guess putting this stuff on their web-site doesn't mean they actually do any of it, too bad.

I guess I'll join in on this group buy and eat the extra costs, it's still a pretty good deal.

Are you close to the U.S. border? If so you could do as I do and that's get it shipped to a U.S. address and go pick it up. I get things shipped to Niagara Falls N.Y. where I pay $3 per shipment regardless of the size or cost of the package. Might be something to consider as there must be a spot in the U.S. close to the Canadian border near you that does this as well. If you use a carrier other than the USPS (UPS, FedEx) using this scenario there obviously won't be brokerage fees and taxes as there would be if you were to get it shipped directly to Canada.

If you get it shipped to your home via USPS and the vendor marked it as a gift and it's under $60, there is no duty or taxes. This too is a method that I have used in the past.

http://www.cbsa-asfc.gc.ca/import/postal-postale/gifts-cadeaux-eng.html

If a shipment is not a gift and it's less than $20 then there is no duty, taxes or fees either.

Here's the entire set of rules for importing for personal use via the mail into Canada.

http://www.cbsa-asfc.gc.ca/import/postal-postale/duty-droits-eng.html

It's not as tough as it seems.

Well, I installed my heated seats today.  I used the same location on the dash and modified/hacked the AC controls as was posted by 2WK4u.  I had to extend the switches by about 40".  this was definitely not an easy mod.  The seat heater itself was easy to install but routing the wires under the carpet and into the dash was a real nightmare.  I wound up having to take the whole dash apart.  I also found out the that the previous owner must have taken the boomerang apart a few times because the majority of the clips along the top of the boomerang were missing. If anyone knows how to get these I'd appreciate it.  I drove to 4 auto parts store in the area and none had anything even close.  I wasted so much time driving to auto stores and extending the switch harnass that I only got the drive's seat done.

If I had to do this again, I would strongly recommend installing them on the back wall by the waterfall under the cupholder like Elff did.  Boy would that have been so much easier.

I gathered information and pictures from everyone else that had installed these and compiled it all into a single document.  Hope it helps, I'll be adding more pictures later after I finish my installation.

one more thing, when pulling the seats out, you should remove the door sill as a precaution prior to removing the seat belt bolt. This bolt can get caught on the edge of the door sill and break the plastic if you are not careful.

And if you don't take the sill off, the wrench might slip and dent the aluminum insert in your GXP or Redline when you reinstall the seatbelts.

Don't ask how I know.

So that's what my dent's from... ;) actually, I think I dropped the seat and the seat bracket made the dent...

I bought Heizgerat Sezts H3's:

http://www.heatedseatkits.com/heatedseatkits/iheat3/index.html

Primarily because I heard good things about them, and they have a Canadian distribution point they ship from, so I wouldn't have to worry about getting hit with customs/import fees.

I have an 2008 Sky RL, CFSE, and I installed my kit with the switches in the centre stack.  I have mine mounted basically like this:

http://www.skyroadster.com/forums/attachments/f5/21976d1202054097-seat-upgrades-foam-heaters-img_0575.jpg

Except mine are shifted more to the left and spaced closer together because my car has traction control, whereas this car is likely an 07 Sky non-turbo.

I definitely did not need extra wiring to wire mine up this way, which is basically in the centre stack in front of the shifter.  I had my doubts as to whether this kit was the same kit as mine even though they are likely the same manufacturer.  However, this company has 4 various kits that are very similar in description.  But apparently, I definitely don't have the same kit.  No biggie.  I love mine.

I live in Toronto, and my car is a daily driver.  I've been spoiled with heated seats in all the previous cars I've driven.  I thought I could order the Sky RL CFSE with heated seats.  WRONG!  WTF?!?  Seriously?  I chalked it up to the car being a convertible/summer car.  I went one winter without heated seats.  After that I slapped the Heizgarat Sezts H3's in, and it has definitely been one of the best mods of many which I love.  It's extended the top down season tonnes, and in the winter, it's nice that you can feel heat within 3 minutes, and pretty hot warmth by about 5-6 minutes, even in Toronto winters.

Regardless, everyone should be installing these in their cars.  Basically with heated seats wiring can be a 8itch if you haven't done wiring before.  Basically comfort level with stringing cable in dashes, under carpet, etc.  Simple tip, take a coat hanger, open up the ends, create a simple hooked end, and use that to push wire taped to it, or to grab wire and pull.  Installing the elements is scarily easy.  You can get the seats out of the car with 4 nuts, 1 bolt, and 5 minutes.  There's a wealth of instructional threads across the 3 major kappa boards including this one.

Okay, I haven´t been on here for a few days as I have been out of the country without the internet but has anyone found seat coolers?

"Cool" idea.....if they used thermoelectric elements you could have seat heaters and seat coolers in the same elements, you'd just have reverse the polarity which shouldn't be that hard......but no, I haven't seen any...

Thanks!  I'll be doing mine at SMMM7.  Still leaning toward the placement Joe used, it may be much harder but I like it, and there should be several experts on that method at SMMM7...

Okay, One more word of warning.  The pads that came in my kit did not have adhesive on the back side. That being said, It is very difficult to tell which is the back side and which is the front.  When I did the driver's seat yesterday, I did not pay any attention to the fact that these could be installed two ways and I applied the spray adhesive on the front side by mistake.

I did not notice this until today when I was doing the passenger's seat and noticed that one side has a thinner material covering the elements and the elements are more visible.,  I am assuming that the side with the thinner material is the front side.  This is the side with the little metal object on the bottom that looks like it might be a thermistor.  Oh well now I have to pull the driver's seat apart and reverse the pads.  hopefully the glue won't rip the seat foam.  that would be bad.

On the set I got that did have adhesive on them, that was the side the adhesive is on...  I don't think it's that important, though.  I'd leave them as-is.

Ok, I'm finally all done.  I've update the instructions and included more pictures.  I added quite a bit of detail.  I would have added more pictures but my helper left with the camera in the middle of the install. I was lucky to get any help at all from my son and daughter :)

Finally pulled the trigger on getting the heated seats. The kappaperformance discount is still ineffect! Thanks again Joe for this great discount almost a year old. We had our first sub 30 degree day here in New England and just couldn't stand the thought of another winter without heated seats.

Any expierienced installers out there who would like to help out a fellow kappa friend? I expect to have them in by Monday and would like to have them installed before the end of November.

Cherod, I like your website. Lots of information, lots of pictures. Great DIY page. If this wasn't my DD then I would probably just follow your directions and however long it takes, it takes.
