Finally pulled the trigger on getting the heated seats. The kappaperformance discount is still ineffect! Thanks again Joe for this great discount almost a year old. We had our first sub 30 degree day here in New England and just couldn't stand the thought of another winter without heated seats.

Any expierienced installers out there who would like to help out a fellow kappa friend? I expect to have them in by Monday and would like to have them installed before the end of November.

Cherod, I like your website. Lots of information, lots of pictures. Great DIY page. If this wasn't my DD then I would probably just follow your directions and however long it takes, it takes.

If you're still making regular trips down my way, CT, you can "swing by" my place and I'll hook you up.  You still have my number?

I have an extra pair available.  What ever the price is, plus shipping.  I bought 4 total with big dreams and have yet to instal any, so two can go to a needy home.  I'll hold on to the other two for a rainy day.

GJ

If you're actively looking to unload a pair, I'll take 'em off your hands for Geraldine.  Otherwise I'll probably order a set and burn down my truck trying to install them next Summer.  Shipping would be to 11788.  Let me know.

Yup, or as my mechanic referred to her, "that red thing."

I really love doing that to people for some reason.  Perhaps I'm a bit of a sadist.  :idk:

How does your ass ride around in his car without your knowledge?  I've known people that couldn't find their ass with both hands but yours is out joy ridding without you knowing, that's a new extreme.

October through April is totally safe.  I like to do it on really hot and/or muggy days.

I live in Toronto, and my Sky is a relatively low mileage daily driver (I average 12-15K km a year depending on road trips to Boston, Montreal, cottage trips, etc).  I've always been spoiled by having heated seats in the family cars . . . when I got the Sky, I couldn't believe I couldn't get heated seats with it.  Typically, if a manufacturer offers leather seats, they also offer heated seats as well . . . we all know cold leather sucks in the winter to sit on.  Guess GM doesn't consider the Kappa a daily driver type car.  Anyways, went the first year without heated seats, let me remind you first car ever till then that I drove that had leather and no heated seats, was never going to do it again.  Bought a kit, slapped it in, kicked myself for not doing it the first year.

Without heated seats, I'd be comfortable till about 15-16* C in the sun, at faster speeds if necessary.  Maybe 18* if at night at highway speeds.  And it sucked all winter.  With heated seats, it's comfortable to like 10* C up to 70-80 km/h and has added a month on each end of summer to my top down seat time.  Leave the windows up, turn the seat heaters on, and I don't even blast the heat.  Like fan speed 2, one or two clicks off full hot, and it's nice in the fall and spring.  Went for a few drives around the Greater Toronto Area and caught fall colours with the girlfriend, top down, and the seat heaters made it so much nicer.

I recommend them to everyone.  Install I'd say budget 5 hours or so.  Very basic tools required.  Hardest part is running wiring.  If you tap power to the power seat, wiring is even easier.  In retrospect I probably would have done it that way now.  I have mine wired to the fuse panel mostly to keep all my added electronic stuff neat and tidy and I guess "legit" if you will.  But now that I think about it, it would have been so much quicker to tap power to the seat heater power supply, and I'd even disconnect my seat height adjustment just in case activating it while the heaters were on might blow the fuses, especially if both seats are on high.  That was one of the reasons I was concerned about wiring to the seat heaters, but in retrospect, I don't want the height to be adjustable . . . can't remember the last time I touched that button.

Also, was never confirmed as to whether the height adjuster is an always on circuit, or one controlled by the BCM or RAP circuits.  If it's an always on, which is the case on some cars, you could accidentally drain your battery by leaving the seat heaters on, and boy is it easy to do that by accident.  If it's controlled, it should shut off after a number of minutes after the car is locked . . . much like the interior light circuit.  But if someone could confirm, that would probably knock off atleast an hour to the install.  Being neat and tidy with your wiring at the back of the footwell is a chiropractor's dream.  With the seat out of the car, it's a cavern to solder wire to the seat adjuster power supply.

I thought that it never rained in Southern California?

Guess a rainy day finally came along!

After a long delay, I finally installed heated seat in the Solstice.  It's getting chilly here in San Diego and the misses deserves warm buns.  I really liked 2kwk4u's install location, it seemed to be the most natural spot.  But, I didn't think I was going to want to go to that extream of custom fabrication.  At the end of it all, I wasn't going to be happy with the switches in any other location.  I took my time and the work great!  I had them on today even though it was 81 degrees, just because I had to try them out!

Here you go:  The first pic is an in progress shot.  What can I say, animal crackers and a good beer make any project go smoother.

And here is the finished install location for the switches:

Not as hard as it seems like it might be.  The hardest part of it all is extending the wiring and then taking a drill to your dash board.  Not that it's hard to drill, but it is emotionally difficult!

I'd like my switches installed in the dash too. Someone I know installed them in the waterfall and keeps accidentally turning them on with his elbow

Lilndn,

Try to get them in before the winter! I don't know how often I will use mine, but they're great!  Not that I'm complaining about the 75 degree weather today, but I am looking forward to a brisk morning drive!

It took some extra cutting of the AC control box.  But, after inspecting carefully, there is a giant empty space right where the holes need to be made.  I used a hot knife on a butane sodering tool.  Cut like a hot knife thru butter - plus the fumes smells good and if you try real hard, they make you woozy too!

This is sorta on subject.  Canucks have every cold-wx gear you can possibly imagine.  When I was in the Great White North for a two year stint I frequented "Canadian Tire" and noted they have a heated seat cover that plugs into the lighter.  I've never seen them here and no more cold than it gets in Northern Virginia I just tough it out.  It seemed like an ok alternative, in a red-green sort of way.  I would like to have the heated seat mod at some point though.

I suspect that may actually be a lie he tells people when he intentionally burns their asses on hot days.

Do you have the Radio Shack part numbers for those connectors??  Could you post those here for all to find?

Thanks!

Radio shack part #'s 274-234 and 274-224.  They're not THE SAME connectors as used in the kits, though.  Just plain old 4-pin connectors.  The terminals can be a little fussy to crimp, though.  I really believe the better route for most folks would be to buy the 3-foot extensions when they buy the seat heater kits.  It's an option when you order them now.  I think they're five bucks each.

If you want the switches on the dash, order two pairs of the extensions.  I'd be happy to come to Florida to help with the installation, but I think it might be a bit cost prohibitive...

Well here are some pics from the heated seat installation by 2kw4u and I from last weekend...

1st pic is the interior gutted for the installation.

2nd pic is the passenger seat with pads installed and wires run to the back of the seat.

3rd pic shows 2kw4u Wiring up the main power wire to the BCM... Nice shirt!!!

Overall rating, GREAT!!! Can't believe these were not on a stock Solstice/Sky from the get-go.  More pics to follow...
