Topic: Purge valve supposed to have oil?

To all the great minds out there,

In researching my P0101 MAF Code, I did find, thanks to help from all of you, a long post on the BB indicating some issues with the purge valve and it reiterated what many of you here have said about the little plastic nipple coming off the air intake hose being fragile. So I went out to check the little nipple and to see if I had any ballooning of my IC.  IC looks good from the front which is all I can see easily. When I pulled the fitting off the little plastic piece, there was some oil on it. Not a lot, it wasn't dripping, but it was noticeable.  I have checked the air filter and there is no sign of oil reaching it. My question is - is that normal? The braided line goes directly under the engine cover and in to the engine I think?  I just took some pics, they will follow shortly.

The proper name for it is 'dohicky' and it's job is to vent vapors and positive pressure from the engine,  They used to vent to the atmosphere, but that isn't green so now they vent in the air intake system to be re-absorved into the combustion chamber.  Sometimes there will be oil involved, especially if you run it hard.

On previous cars, I definitely had some oil coming out of my positive crankcase ventilation valve.  On all those cars, I would disconnect the pcv, put a breather filter on it, and cap the nipple on the intake, then do a full intake cleaning, typically using either something like Seafoam, or GM Cleenz (their intake/combustion cleaner).

I've had my 2008 Sky RL CFSE, for about 18 months now, and entirely expected to see atleast some oil, but nadah.  Nothing at all, not even film.  Perhaps I might even leave it connected   My only concern is I've seen how this valve often rips the nipple off the intake tube.  It's a lot easier to slip a cap over the nipple now, then it is to seal the intake tube if it rips off.

This is what used to be known as the breather.  As Critter said, it vents oil vapors that build up in the crankcase when you rev your engine.  Bet you never do that!  So, oil comes from oil vapor.  Unless you are losing measurable amounts of oil from your engine (in which case you are talking major engine work), you're good here.
