Topic: Hey Canadians, changed your wheelhouse liners?

Went to the dealer today to show him my cracked wheelhouse liner on my 2008 as I have the TSB. Pulled into the service bay and asked the lady there the time so I could set the time on the clock of the GXP that I had put on the road just minutes earlier. I set the clock and she said that the body shop would be the ones to change the wheelhouse liners so I took a drive around to see the manager there.

As I know the body shop manager from the Pontiac dealership that I bought my car from, we exchanged pleasantries and I told him that if he didn't insist otherwise, that the wheelhouse liners would look as they were dragged down a gravel road and that if they looked like that, I didn't want them on my car.

He said that he didn't know if he could get them to ship them packaged in any way.

Has anyone in Canada had any luck getting wheelhouse liners changed under warranty that weren't all beat up when they were installed on their car?

I had the same issue.  GM doesn't package them properly when they get shipped.  I fussed and my dealer took them off a new car.

Unfortunately there aren't any new cars at the Chevy dealer that is now doing Pontiac service, or any Pontiac dealers for that matter...

I had one of mine replaced last year...driver side. under warranty

People had said on this forum or the BB that new ones were in poor shape...(shipped unprotected)
I check mine before it was in staled and it was in excellent condition...
after installation there was a large gouge in it...caught on a piece of metal when they were forcing it in to position.
Not the best job but better than it was.

I got a wheelhouse liner shipped to another dealer back in the fall and had to send it back as it was really bad. The dealer where I know everyone, just around the corner from my home wasn't able to do Solstice warranty work at that time. They can now and although they don't have a lot of experience with the Solstice, one of the body men has a Sky. Maybe I can get him to do the install if I can get a good liner.

I had my front wheel wells replaced due to cracks, per the TSB.   I had heard of the poor surface quality issues and insisted that if the replacements looked like that, not to install them.

They installed scratched wheel wells anyway, claiming that they could not normally be seen, and therefore, the cosmetics were not worthy of replacement.   F%^&ed up, eh?

If I were to do it over, I'd insist on inspecting them prior to instalation.   Keep rejecting them until they either refuse to do the service, or they get their shit together and request a special order.

I work at the GM parts warehouse in Ontario. Most of the parts we get for our cars here come out of the USA. So I'm wondering if there's a shipping problem. I know I've gone in to get replacement parts for my Sky and they keep ordering them out of the states. Even some of the parts that we have in common with the Solstice they order out of the states and we have the part right here go figure.

The wheel well liner that they ordered came in. The dealership ordered 3 for various cars. Two of the 3 came boxed. The one for my car did not and they other two cars were cars that you wouldn't be able to see the top of the liner when you open the hood anyway! They wouldn't even show them to me and I didn't specifically want to see them as I had told them previously to expect this and that they HAVE to ask to have them wrapped.

They know that I don't want them on the car all scratched up. The dealership (Chevy dealer) is ordering another and we'll see how they make out this time.

 Went with a Redline owner who had his done today, same issue. He took the car home and found that he could cover the scratches with black shoe cream. You couldn't even see it after he finished,  since its on the inside of the engine well it may stand up. Sure sounds like a shipping issue.

It would be nice if an aftermarket manufacture could mark some carbon fiber replacements. Won't be that difficult to do. And I think we all love our cars enough to pay the price.

Define strong enough.

Besides the high cost to make them there is the potential for them to break because carbon fiber is intended to be pretty ridged the liners will have to absorb some impacts from rocks and such which a flexible material will handle better.  I don't think wheel well liners is the right application for a CF part.  The OEM liners are not very heavy so I don't see the benefit there either.

True, I was thinking along the lines of appearance. It seems the main complaint is the replacements are scratched. But CF should damage with the first stone.
