my experience at SMG Motoring (in Hopedale MA)
« on: October 04, 2010, 01:52:19 PM »
I was referred to SMG by Antonio ("SKY888") about a week ago. After a few emails back and forth with Fred, the main tuner at SMG, i set up an appointment for this past Saturday. I have to say, i couldn't be more pleased with my experience and results. Fred could not have been any nicer and demonstrated a thorough understanding of all necessary topics when discussing the intricacies of the LNF...

Tuning:
I'm the proud owner of a 2007 white GXP with a Dejon intake, Dejon intercooler pipes, Solo catless dp, and Magnaflow exhaust.
My baseline dyno at SMG turned in the figures: 223 whp and 232 wtq.
After Fred worked his magic......                     287 whp and 296 wtq.   (that's a gain of 64whp and 64wtq)
Don't make judgments purely on these numbers. Fred's skill as a tuner far exceeds these figures. He does not go for the biggest numbers possible, but rather tunes for the highest numbers possible while retaining reliability. If you want the highest numbers possible this is not the tuner for you. if you however take a moment to see the benefits of his style, you will be better off in the long run.
Don't get me wrong. These gains are amazing. The car is an animal w more power than you should put down on the street  :yay:
it feels A LOT like a c5 corvette in terms of performance.... maybe a hair faster   ;)
(i will post graphs, pictures, and videos when i go home Columbus Day Weekend)

Professionalism:
Fred works for the customer. He promptly answered all emails and was very polite even when i was teetering on the edge of annoying. He cares about his image and takes great pride in what he does. He did everything he could to make us feel welcome and wanted to hear all feedback we had.
He assured me that if anything were wrong he would work to rectify it. Just to give him a call whenever convenient for me.

I'd recommend Fred to anyone who wants any type of work done to their Kappa.

Not just me!  Also josh with his project scarab :)

intially, I was kinda turned-off by SMG, since Fred is very conservative with his tuning.  Which I already warned Eric.   SMG will not push the engine, just to get high numbers....then later on with a blown engine.   He will tune your car to its max, without jeopardizing the health of the engine....and that's his priority!

I later realized, that SMG is right.........and I'm happy that he is very conservative with his tuning.   I am happy camper, since my engine is still intact after the GT30 and GT35 turbos :)

I know Eric will realize as well....... the importance of engine longevity.   It is cheaper not to replace engine internals and still have good power increase! :)
