Seat belt guides
« on: October 04, 2010, 02:49:09 PM »
I have not been happy with the fact the seat belt in our cars was so hard to reach. I have the JPM seatbelt loops, but am not satisfied that the seatbelts do not like to retract without assistance. After a short search of the internet, I found and alternative. BMW Z3 seatbelt guides look as if they will work for our cars. I've ordered both the driver's ($24) and passenger's side ($23) guides from an internet BMW parts place. In total it cost $63.33 with shipping. I should get them this week and will let you know how it goes. They look like this:

Sure looks like that will work. It will cover the jpm holes by the look of it.

Installed the BMW seatbelt guides today. No significant difference in retractability of the seatbelts. I'm disappointed. It's a little bit harder for them to retract or maybe I'm not used to them yet. However, I think these guides do look "cleaner" than the JPM loops. I used the existing bottom hole i had to punch for the JPM loop for the top post of the BMW guide. Then, I punched a new hole for the bottom post of the BMW guide. The top hole created by the JPM loop i left filled with the JPM hardware. The BMW guides were a little bit of a pain to install because of the plastic backing strip you had to install on the inside of the seat and the retaining rings that went on the inside around the upper and lower guide posts. I just think the seatbelt retractors were poorly designed in our cars. The retracting mechanism should have been stronger to pull the seatbelt back into the wall. I now have two JPM seatbelt loops, black w/ yellow stitching, up for grabs. You will need to get two additional fasteners (2 quick snaps) from JPM since I had to keep and use two. $25 plus shipping. PM me. Thanks!

Um, did you see how much I paid for these? I wouldn't exactly call it "cheap" plastic. It's BMW plastic!

How does one know where to tap into the seat?

I'd have to measure it to give you proper placement. I reused the bottom hole created by the JPM loops. Then, i just test fit the BMW guide and marked where the hole needed to be for the bottom post.

Helios, can you give us part numbers?

The part number for the driver's side guide is 52108410505. Passenger side is 52108410506.

Be aware that these are a pain in the butt to install. The backing plate and retaining fasteners are a SOB to get on inside the seat. Bend the tabs out of the retaining rings a little bit so that it is still snug fitting on the post, but not a pain in the ass.

When I found these on the internet, I thought it would look pretty clean so I made the leap and bought them.
