Going to change out the transmission fluid today to Royal Purple. Hopefully it'll smooth out the shifting.
I changed mine out to RP and I did not notice any difference ... but hoprfully you will get better results.

I just dropped mine off at the local Chevy dealer and let them do it. Hopefully my car will come out unscathed.

I hope so. It's an expensive investment for it to not be effective. I'll end up changing out my differential fluid on my own when I get back to my house after I finish working in GA.

Picked up my car after fluid change. There was SOME difference, but not much. It did not solve my difficulty with shifting into 3rd and 4th gears though. Bummer... :'(

Do you have the stock shifter or a JPM? After I swapped to the JPM shifting was much harder until I switched to a weighted ball, the stock shifter is weighted the JPM is not, works much better with the weighted ball from JPM), my shift knob weighs almost a pound and a half.

Yes, I have the JPM shifter. I did not know JPM had a weighted ball. Do you mean the aluminum ones? I'll look into it. Now, that you mention it, I didn't experience shift problems until after I got rid of the stock one.

Stainless Steel baby, a pound and a half aluminium shifter would be the size of a basket ball. I was the first to use the weighted ball for exactly the problem you describe. This is a very common problem on the Subaru, the same vendor that makes the shift knobs for JPM makes the weighted ones for the Subaru. We use a Subaru thread on the JPM shifter. He does some different colors and shapes.

Here is the thread from back in August of 09

Did you ask about the pound and a half aluminium one?

It was only an accident, I figured this out been very happy with mine. I wondered when I pulled the stock one why it was so heavy, then I figured it out. It does get very cold in winter, but that's what gloves are for.

Would the cue ball looking ball have the same weight?

Figured the aluminum one could have been weighted with a lead center, kind of like how golf clubs can have adjustable weights installed on the club head.

I believe the cue ball is slightly less, not significant. I think I am the only one who has used the one with the collar, JPM made me a custom boot for it.

Yours the collar is a seperate piece, mine it is part of the knob, requires a different shift boot. With the seperate collar you can adjust the height, on mine you can not.
