Hi all! New GXP owner
« on: October 19, 2010, 01:57:14 PM »
Hi all!

I just got my Black GXP on October 2nd (delivered). I'm absolutely in love with it and except for a few issues that are being covered by the warranty and some very small paint chips, I'm completely satisfied.

A little about me. I live in Sunny Sebring Florida, though I do spend a lot of time in Tampa, Florida for work. My car has been aptly named MeiliBoxster by my brother. Meili as in my middle name, Box as in MeiliBox (the Coldfusion framework I wrote based on Mach-ii). He seemed to think it fit well, so I'm thinking of letting it go (saying I own multiple domains already centered around MeiliBox). We know its not really a Boxster, but I'm not thinking I care too much. What do you all think?

Besides all that, I am interested in meeting up with other Kappa owners (Solstice/Sky/etc) to learn more about the cars and just to hang out with people who share my obsession with these beautiful cars (most my friends just don't get it!)

I'm glad to be a new part of this exciting community and can't wait to dig in and find all the kewl mods I can do.

Oh yeah, here are the few ones I've already done:

TomatoSoup's Mod: 'No-roof-wear-from-trunk-liner' fix
Red LED Foot well lighting.
Red LED Mirror light replacments
The 2 1/2" Trunk spring mod (to open the trunk fully automatically)
I have some red LED strips for the trunk, but have yet to install them. Any good suggestions for replacing the original bulb with a LED one or just covering it up? Also, any tips for removing the trunk top liner without damaging it?

I have some more planned (complete JPM leather interior, Norm's Fiberglass parts, etc), but as I quickly learned, these wont' be cheap and I will have to spread it out over time (I'm already up to roughly 6k in additional costs for my car).  Slowly I'll get there :)

Welcome, about the only thing I can say is don't ever let cars be your only influence for ideas; look at outlaw bikes and custom rods sites.  Those folks really are on the cutting edge for mods and products, and once something goes mainstream it's time to start thinking about switching gears.

I can see an insignia above the Pontiac arrowhead on the left fender and another on the left rear.  They look like "Mallett V8" insignias.   :idk:

What are they?

Those are actually 'Turbo' insignias. I thought since the car was a turbo that it was added at the factory, but after seeing so many pictures of Solstices lately, I think the previous owner added them. There is also one next to the 'Pontiac' on the back. The side ones will go away when I get some of Norm's Fenders, the one on the back I'm not sure about yet.

really? I'll have to ask about that. Maybe someone local to me can tell me (Tampa or Orlando areas). Till then, here are some night interior shots. Excuse the blaring white trunk light. That will be going away soon. And the cockpit lighting really isn't that harsh. It's all quite amazing looking.
