Any one tune for 100 oct yet
« on: October 22, 2010, 09:36:34 AM »
I've decided to ditch my stock mode and just use it for race gas
I've got plety of places that sell unleaded Rae gas down here so I was wondering has anybody tuned for it yet and what where your whp gains.

I believe Snap on Bob has done just that.  His whp gains were evident, but no nearly as impressive as his wtq gains (50 + if I recall?).  If he doesn't chime in soon, I will go find his posts and attach here.

Slowsol, unleaded 100 octane is NOT cheap. When the ECM is tuned to 100, it gets WAY thirsty when you get into the gas pedal. REAL thirsty. From the standpoint of how the car feels on the street, a good 93 octane tune will be plenty, and then you are not tethered to Sunoco stations. I don't have Sunoco available in the KC area, so I have to drive 20 miles for VP100 at $9/gal, so you can trust that Streak now just sits between races. Over the winter I will switch my tune back to 91 octane so I can street drive the car on pump gas.

Horsepower is nearly a fictional number. Actually, it is a math formula based on Torque (a real number) and engine RPM. All I know is that at 3000 rpm the store is open for business in a REAL way, and when the tq and hp curves cross (about 4800) sh!t gets busy !!!!!!!!!!!!!

I don't feel NEARLY as bad paying $5.99/gallon for 100 octane here in Vegas as I did before this thread!   :idk:  In fact I don't think I'll gripe about it anymore.  :yay:

The pumps where I bought VP100 were at a nearby truck stop that has now closed. I contacted the closest regional distributor who referred me to a guy that runs a muffler shop and he sells racing fuel out of his barrels of gas. Here are links to Sunoco and VP distributors.

It was $6.40/gal for 100 off of Chesebro in Thousand Oaks, CA, just a month ago.  For once, CA is cheaper on gas than the midwest.

Hey, stop complaining about the price. Around here Sunoco can be found in only one place and it costs 6 Euro/liter without tax so translated in your measurement system, how about $28/Gal? :P

Gee .................... I have now learned that water is combustible. (Sort of.) Something sounds SO bogus.

Octane is the resistance of gas to combust.  Add some water injection and  you raise the octane.  Am I wrong?  Water does not combust.  It prevents it.

I read it.  Still no deffinate answer.  Snow performance gave a number of 20+ to octane.  Devils own said no.  Who to believe?  Up to the consumer.  Untill I see a data sheet ill stick with my 104 rating.

from what i have learned about water meth recently.

methanol has a high octane, but you are only burning a small amount of methanol, so it will only increase the octane of what is burned.

water has no octane, but it will cool things down to prevent pre-ignition of fuel.

Let's say the methanol has 110 octane and you spray 50/50 water methanol mix.

Then let's say you set it up to that when at WOT, 90 percent of what is burned is gas with 93 octane, and the water/meth mix is the other 10 percent.

So that means only 5% of methanol is being burned, which will only increase the octane by a very tiny amount. Maybe not even one whole octane.
