Am i the only one with cloth seats?
« on: November 02, 2010, 07:59:41 AM »
in Europe, the Opel GT was offered fully loaded (no Onstar) and the only extra package was called "premium package" including leather seats, sub and 6CD changer for around 1500 euros, which is quite reasonable.
having leather seats on my previous car, i didn t want them since during hot days, i couldn t sit, my butt was on fire. plus i suspected that it wouldn't be premium class leather, which i don t like.
i didn't need a 6CD player because it has mp3 player and a jack aux (i always have an MP4 connected), so it only left me with the sub. i don t really play music loud, so that wasn t necessary either.

so i went without the premium package.

i find out that in Greece i must be the only one having the cloth seats, which i like a lot.

OK leather is more classy, sometimes i envy it, but overall i wouldn't pay (at least not now) to have leather...summer in Greece can be really hot and leather gets really heated.

Does anyone else have a kappa with factory cloth seats?

if not, then i must be a one of a kind

Nah, I'm an oddball too.

I grew up in FLA (hot & humid) and have always sweated quite a bit.  Makes leather not something I wanted.

When I bought mine, it was pretty tough to find a GXP with cloth seats....they are pretty rare.

I don't have onstar/XM, do have monsoon speakers......

Now when these finally need some dressing up, I just might have to look at JPM's Alcantara with some leather accents....it feels a lot better on a "sweater" than leather and looks a ton better than cloth.....

Yes, the seats get hot but I always tilt the seat forward when I have the top down.  That prevents them from getting hot.   The part I didn't like was sweating when driving in the heat, and having it drip down your backside!

The only option my sky had was the leather seats.  The difference between them and cloth normally ends up being durability.
Cloth eventually starts to wear away years before properly maintained leather does.

With the addition of heated seats, I don't have cold seats ever, but If I forget to tilt them forward, they sure can be warm in the summer.

My first Sky which I only owned for just a month, had the cloth seats. The seats are nicely made but gives that cheap look to the car.... IMHO
Right now I have the almost all black leather seats and should be getting my custom all leather seats from JPM very soon which I ordered with a new center console....

Around here: premium package was leather seats (two tones was optional) and metallic color

When I went to pick up my GT from Germany, there were over 50 GTs all with leather seats, the sales lady was looking strange to me when I said I don't want leather seats, she thought I'm making jokes because I saw that all have leather seats. Even so, I didn't paid anything extra for the premium package, I don't want to disclose how much I paid on my GT, brand new cause all my greek GT owners will transform in haters

SOB: what TMI means?  :gaah:

Arabas: ahahah, slap  :ttiwwp:

P.S. Leather seats suck, they are hot in the summer and ice cold in the winter, I prefer cloth even it wears faster, I scratched my leather anyhow and I plan to replace it in 2 years  :barf2:

No argument, leather looks better......but comfort wins out IMHO.   That's why JPM's Alcantara might be in my future, the best of both worlds.

Ours has the premium package.  But since we were scrambling to get an 09 coupe it was more or less this is what we have than what you want scenario.  Regardless, we would have chosen leather.  Not jut because it adds a little luxury but its wear characteristics.  In a low slung car folks have a tendency to constantly slide in and out of a seat (if your top is down you at least have the option of sitting in the seat first).  Consistent sliding eventually wears completely through fabric, whereas with leather the discoloration lets you know that wearing is starting to occur.  But we still put fabric seat covers on ours because I’m assuming the quality of the leather is on the low side, and leather or fabric, it’s a lot cheaper to buy seat covers than have upholstery repaired.

ChopTop,

If you interested, I have a custom set of Sheepskin seat covers that the original owner had made.  Be nice on your toosh in the cold MI winters.  PM me if interested in details.

I put cloth seat bottoms on my leather seats to keep me from sliding around as much.

But now I have the kirkeys which do a better job ;)

I had a 74 Ford with leather seats and didn't like them, so I got my Sky with cloth seats.
I would however like to get seats with Alcantara.

I have an 07 GXP with cloth.
I don't know how anyone would stay in their seat while driving hard with leather.
At least with these relatively unsupportive seats.

They are not wearing very well.  Especially the bottom where the fabric seems to stretch.

I guess I don't have this problem with the leather seats in my car but there are two tricks that I use.  First I use the seat belt and second I don't Armor All the damn seats.

Seriously though how many people have so much room in their kappa that they can slide all over the place?

A story: I ordered mine with cloth seats because I didn't like the leather options and hoped that I would redo them in the future. That being said, our last Kentucky weekend, we were driving the 6 hours home, hubby was tired and so he started eating chocolate covered coffee beans, we made a pit stop and as I watched him walk into the store I noticed a pile of brown dripping from his butt, now I knew he had to "go" but really!!!!! then I turned and looked at my seat!!!!! chocolate smeared all into the seat...I tried to clean it up in between laughing that my hubby had tons of stuff dripping off his butt...... needless to say, the car seat is stained from the cleaning products to get all that chocolate out and hubby is banned from eating in my car for ever more...... leather here we come soon!!!!! I might also add that that same weekend he ate a meat product and instead of putting it in the garbage he left it in the trunk when we cleaned out the car and 4 weeks later I got in to drive it for the first time in those 4 weeks and the smell was nasty, look in the trunk to find thousands of maggots all over the area that said husband left his food......can you say barf  :barf:  a little while scooping maggots out of the trunk.......took weeks to get the smell out and the stain in the trunk......One hubby in the dog house!!!
