Topic: 2007 Corvette Overview. How does it compare to the 2007 GXP, Red line & Opel GT?

  No comparison... I could buy a Vette anytime I want but like Camaro's, Challenger's, Mustangs etc there is ton of them on every street corner , they don't have much personality, nothing unique about them.  They just keep pumping them out.  I'm one who is glad they quit producing our cars, intend to keep it a very long time.

  My Sol is plenty fast enough, handles well enough and stands out in a crowd. What more do I want in a sports car? Nope it's not the fastest , the best handler, the most expensive but it is great value and unique. In time it will be even more unique. 

 I see them much like the TR6 or similar classic looking sports car, a bit timeless. Over time they will be even more appreciated for their body style IMHO. Then we get standard parts , pretty good engineering and about 300 HP to play with.  Not a bad package.

Is that an MGA hardtop I see there? I had a 1959 with roll up windows and hardtop. Just sayin'.....

Yes, although it is termed a coupe in MGA speak.  That one is a 1962 Mk 2 with 4 wheel disc brakes.

Not a lot of coupes were built - nice to hear from another former owner.  Those are my two sports coupes, 50 years apart!

It was such a long time ago, but I believe the MGA's grill was different from yours. It followed the curve of the hood. Yours looks different. Also, I didn't have those chrome air intakes (?) on the hood. It was rebuilt and we put a harley exhaust on it..it sounded great!  I also owned a 1956 Lotus Super 6 not the 7  It was a hill climber, right hand drive, 3 speed. Fast l'il sucker!

Yes, the Mk 2 grille stepped back from the smoother 1500 and 1600 versions.  All MGAs had the little chrome ovals on the body beside the bonnet - if yours didn't, it may have been modified.

I find the coupe makes a much nicer highway tourer than the roadster.

When I bought the Mallett in 2007, I went through the debate.  New Corvette, 50K plus, and have one of a couple million.  New Z06, 75K plus, and have one of a hundred thousand.  Mallett V8 Solstice, 50K even, and have one of a hundred.  The Mallett is 350lbs lighter than the 'vette, with the same horsepower.  A no brainer for me.

I've never been in a Corvette, always been curious though.  For those that have OWNED both, a convertible Corvette and a Covertible Kappa, which one is better in handling the twisties?  That is for cars still stock.  Is one hands down better?  Leave the price factor out of it too please. 

Even in this thread there appears to be two very different viewpoints.

To if you ignore price the Corvette is going to to be better in almost all areas. More power, fuel efficincy is the same, more storage area/a real trunk, better reliability (NA pushrod V8 vs. overcomputerized DOHC turbo 4-banger) and so on.

I don't hold with the argument "I want something unique, can't have the same thing everyone else has." My take on sports cars is it's all about performance, and if everyone else has the top performing car that's not going to stop me from buying it.

The only reason I didn't get a 'vette was that I only wanted to buy new. I've since learned my lesson about that.

Drum Role.........40,561 Produced

Now someone with some smarts pull up the 2007 Kappa production.  The "Wow" factor is off the charts for the Kappa's, uh, ya know they are rare as hens teeth and I for one drive it a bit safer after wrecking my S.O. 1995 Pontiac Firebird Formula, and as I have said it was fitted with the Corvette 5.7 liter V8 engine and 6-speed manual transmission, as i remember it had 280 HP and tons of low end torque but uh, the Birds were somewhat rare compared to the Corvette's!

No, you have that right, but to put it into perspective, over 8000 cars is nowhere near rare, and that is only for that model year and doesn't take into account all the other model years.

Just as an example, the one year of Kappa production you cited exceeds the total production of all years of every one of the cars listed in my signature.

Yes, you are right, although if one considers the 1988 Fiero GT which had a totally different suspension from the earlier cars, they only made around 6500 of those.  But good catch, the number of Fiero GTs from 1986 through 1988 was well over the single year number for 2007 GXPs.
