Could we build OUR antenna into the spoiler?
« on: December 21, 2010, 09:32:22 AM »
The new Camaro convertible will have the antenna built into the rear spoiler. For those that use the whip on our cars that may be an option that we could explore.

Interesting, but I'm surprised they said (in the video) that it was so difficult.  They've been building horizontal antennas into windows for donkey's years - why so difficult to move it down a foot?

I wonder where the C5/C6 puts their convertible antenna? I know the coupe has an electronic antenna in the roof.

More about costs anything.

I read that yesterday.  I think a lot of what was driving it was there were a lot of negative Camaro vert decklid comments saying it was too cluttered (antenna, CHML, Onstar).  I know some of us coupe owners didn't care for our attenna placement, but not enough coupes were going to be sold to justify it.  Totally sucks, but there is power in numbers.

I've been wanting to eliminate the antenae on the side of my Sky for a while now.
I wonder if there is simply a generic shark fin that can replace the XM/onstar one and just extend the cable from the passenger quarter panel to the trunk lid??

Copied from Smokingvette
2005:
AM / FM is in behind the rear fascia (there are two)
XM is on top of the B pillar on a coupe and on the trunk in a convertible.
Onstar is the black retangular box on the top right side of the windshield.

2006 - 2010:
AM / FM is in behind the rear fascia (there are two).
XM is located inside the sideview mirrors.
Onstar is the black retangular box on the top right side of the windshield.

You could put this in a variety of locations: link

There are a variety of configurations. One of them could be in the top of the windshield above the mirror.

There are many more that could be made to work, and I am sure are smaller and better looking.

I wonder if the reception would be interfered with  if that was put in the interior plastic windshield surround that the sun visors snap into?

According to the directions it is fine behind plastic.

True.  Unfortunately however, that location would be behind the metal of the windshield surround, so would be shielded.

My '09 already has a box about that size & shape on the windshield above the mirror but it's not the antenna... not sure what it is.

On the coupe, the Onstar antenna is above the rear view mirror. If I was to put an antenna like that on the car it would be behind the waterfall beween the seats where no one would see it. I have my GPS antenna back there and it works flawlessly.
