well guys after 9 weeks of being in the shop the car is finally done. the problem my dealership was having was not being able to get there hands on parts. everything was unavailable so it all had to be special ordered. thats basically what took so long. my faith has been renewed in them, since they started calling me kept me in the loop. thats all i wanted. i freaked thou after driving the car 3 hours later i got a cel thank goodness it was only for my down-pipe, so once i get retuned ill go away.
i have run into a few questions thou. the motor is a brand new hhr motor. the brakets where totally different so my engine bay looks mostly like a solstice but there are hoses and stuff in diff places and it looks a little different. i mean you can tell it goes in there but stuff has been moved around. so im a little concered. ill take a pic later in the day.
for the most part the car runs good. ive only seen 15 psi on boost but ive been driving it just normal to break it in and i can tell the ecu is still learning once i filled her up to a full tank of gas the car felt more alive but im sure ill get better as the ecu adjust.

slowsol ; I do know that the HHR Motor has Electric front Wheel Drive , or did in that Car. That could account for the placement of hoses in different areas. What has to be done to Obtain rear wheel drive I don't know . BUT if itsworking thats the main thing. You might want to ask the Dealer about the under hood placement of the Hoses and such. I just

If it is running correctly, where the hoses go really does not matter. If you get a bunch of angst over that, the brackets themselves are just bolt on items. If the actual bosses on the block are different, then you have what you have, and that's that. It would be interesting to know what the part number differences are JUST for the short block. Good to hear that the car is back on the road. For those of us that don't know what happened, what was the reason for the new engine?

they put a new engine in your kappa? from an HHR?
isn't HHR a FWD?

The engine does not know (or care) what wheels are being driven. A spline goes in the crank either from an input shaft from a transmission, or from offset drive to a transaxle. The brackets may have already been on the engine if it was an assembled and dressed long block (complete engine), and since the HHR SS engine may be the supersede piece for the Kappas, the dealership may not have transferred the brackets. OR, the cast on brackets on the block may be different, thus the question earlier.

It is the basic LNF motor without the turbo or accessories.

Slowsol, glad to see your car is back on the road. Interesting to see good troubleshooting on their part.

As for the engine, I was not assuming anything. If ALL LNF blocks are cast the same, then any bracket issues must be at the shop level.

Must say this looks much better than the 2008 GXP I was looking at last month that had an engine replaced at 3600 miles and had a total of 6900 miles on the car. Exhaust manifold heat shield and turbo heat shield missing, wiring looms unattached and floating, routed next to turbo, real hack job.
Might check your intercooler tube on turbo side, looks like it is rubbing on the hood, otherwise it looks normal, considering what it has just been through.

The front wheel drive cobalt has an electric water pump or something. I would assume the HHR also does. I would bet they put the kappa water pump back in.

Cross your fingers folks. It seems a number of us are losing our engines now. #4 seems to be a reoccurring kill.Whats up with that?

it's kind of comforting to know that our engine is also used in other cars, like Regal, hhr and cobalt and it can be placed in our cars with no major modification.
spider, i thought #3 was failing all the time... i guess it is both #3 and #4...

how much if for a new LNF engine or a used one in the US? (just the engine, not the tranny)

Just under 4000 for the engine, new.

Glad to see you running and thanks for the info you have posted. Engine failure will be more common on this forum. Take off your right shoe and sock. Carefully inspect the skin for a rash,odorous toes etc. Most of our members have a Syndrome called LEAD FOOT- Complications include severe engine failure,Men are more infected than women as a rule, other symptons include engine mods etc. Passive/aggresive personality is common. Lab tests are non conclusive but may be associated with high Testosterone and caffiene levels. There is no know cure for this problem and often these patients land up in divorced/broke or injured in an accident. The cycle is repetitive. Winning is everthing.They will succeed in the long run.
