I'm confused.  Is this to check and see if it goes back to the way it was, or is there some coorelation between fuel trim and steering?  I had the GMPP Stage tune added while the motor was being rebuilt - that doesn't change the steering dynamics, does it?
Sorry, I misread your post.  No that won't help

Hi Spider,

When replacing pistons, doesn't the engine cylinder have to get bored and honed?  Especially when getting Wiseco, is it possible to just do a piston swap without having to let a machine shop work on the engine block?  I need to know this as I am going to have to go through this next month as my piston crown #1 was chipped.

Thanks for everyone's input, we are all learning!

Yes, it is required to be honed, boring only needed if it's scored.  New rings on a new piston need a new wall surface to cut/breakin to.  Think of it this way, If you happen to wear out your brakes to where the rotor is scored bad, you wouldn't buy new brake pads and install without either turning the rotor or replacing it.  There would be significant wear on the pads until it matched the rotor, reducing the life of the pad.

The piston on the other hand, the ring would not seat properly and you would loose compression (power)

stupid question warning...you've been warned.

So i checked my power steering fluid when cold according to the directions in the owners manual.  The manual says the level should be between the cold and hot mark on the dipstick, and if it's low, only add enough to get to the cold mark.  Well, my fluid level is above the hot mark - is it possible that too much fluid in the system would affect the feel of the steering?

Yes that is a possibility and would make your steering stiff.  Do you have anything to suck it out with, or you could drain it - messy

I will find something to siphon some of it out.  Hopefully thats the problem.  As always, thanks Critterman and everyone for their advice.  I dream of the day I can pop in and say hi on this forum without having an issue with the car to discuss!

You will have that day and when you do Cherish it! I'm beginning to loose faith in these cars. I had the White Smoke Syndrome many moons ago but mine was not covered by warranty. Wishing many happy days in the future.

I continue to learn...

So I siphoned off the excess power steering fluid - maybe 2-3 ounces at the most, and unbelievably it made all the difference in the world - the steering is now exactly how it was.

So finally, after 2 1/2 months, my car is back 100%.  Actually, a little better than 100% - I added the GMPP tune to replace the old tune, and replaced the clutch.  The car is actually running 8-10 degrees cooler now than it ever did since the day it was new, so all in all, I'm a happy camper.

I've put almost 600 miles on it since i got it back, so I'm thinking a trip to the dragstrip this weekend is now in order!   :drive:

Congrats, nice to hear you're enjoying your car again, and I appreciate the fact you kept us informed because way to often people post issues but then never report back on how it was resolved so that we can all learn. So kudo's to you for that.
