Topic: Treadware Rating

Need some opinions on a good treadware rating compromise between longevity and grip. I was thinking something in the 220 range.

That sounds pretty soft to me.  But just remember, there's lies, damned lies and treadware ratings!  Actual wear based on ratings is probably only comparable within brands.

I have been thinking about weekend auto X'ing but will still be driving it on the street. I Hankook Ventus now and they are rated at 280 but I would like a bit more grip.

PS.  Play with the air pressure on your current tires.   Place chaulk marks on the outside edge of your tires up to and including the shoulder.   Do a run, not touching the chaulk let some air out.  Running half way down the side of the tire add air.

bottom line you want to be out to the edge of the shoulder, maybe slightly beyond.

your milage might vary.

200 is the lowest you can go before changing classes in Auto-X.  Stock tires for the GXP/Redline is a 360 and they sucked.

That just goes to prove my "don't believe treadware ratings" line.  Our Conti DWS's are rated 540 and still have better dry grip than the OEMs!

My NITTO NT05s are 200.

They are daily driven, and last me about 12,000 miles.

They provide me with stability and grip........

At the rate I drive I would need to replace them twice a year! But they do sound like a nice tire...I just need to stop driving it so much. Of course that will never happen!

There's really pros and cons

if you want less grip...you get more mileage

if you want more grip....you get less mileage

I like to ENJOY driving my car, and get the a decent mileage.   200 treadwear for me, is a happy medium
