Review: The Edge 2000 Buffing Pads

I started life with my Porter Cable buffer using the velcro backed pads that came with the kit I bought from Autogeek.net. I seemed to always have an issue getting the pads centered, and then as the backing plate began to wear with the pads flying off. I never hit the car with the spinning backing plate but I came very close more than once. When the backing plate finally wore out and it was time to buy a new one I looked at other options. I ordered a kit from Autogeek.net that had several 2 sided pads, with different color (cutting) on either side. The kit comes with what looks just like a socket head that screws into the smae place as the velcro buffing plate. There is no visible buffing plate, it is actualy inside the pad. There is a hole in the center of the pad and the pad locks onto the socket head, you press a button in the middle to release it. You can never put the pad on off center, and it will never fly off it is locked on. The edge's of the pad are covered too so you can run right up to the rearview mirror and all that hits it is the side of the pad, helps get into tight places.

Pro's: Double sided each pad is actually 2 pads, never off center, won't fly off EVER. The edge of the pad is a buffer too. Easier to use than the velcro backed pads. Just a much better design.

Con's: Replacement pads cost a little bit more, but each pad is 2 and not 1.

Nice.  I'm probably switching over to this system after I get back to the States.

I would also like to give the Edge Pads a 2 thumbs up.  :thumbs: :thumbs:  I am using a slightly different version – the Edge Wave Pads – but it is still the same concept nonetheless. My favorite part about these pads is that they ALWAYS seem perfectly balanced. I'm using the blue polishing, white finishing and red finishing. I would have bought the orange light cutting pad, but I have 4 brand new LC pads that came with my Porter Cable, and I'm too cheap to buy any more pads when I've got 4 brand new ones sitting there. Bummer, because I'd much rather use the Wave pads.

Pros: Pad balance • Pads are 2-sided for more use per pad • Easy, yet secure pad installation • Can run the pad into tight spaces without worrying about the backing plate • More confidence using the PC
Cons: I'm using the Wave version, which isn't supposed to cake up like the flat pads, they are a little tougher to clean (my opinion only) because you can't really scrub them
