In light of my recent wheel purchase, I have decided that the best and only way to present 10" wide wheels in the back is to widen the rear fenders. I absolutely did not want the wheels to stick out of the fenders at all...it's just not my type of look that I enjoy. I purchased the Forgestar CF5 wheels in the following sizes: Fronts are 19x8.5 with a 50mm offset and Rears are 19x10 with a 36mm offset

In about 2-3 weeks, the car will be going to my body shop to have the rear fenders widened, smoothed, and repainted. It is not an easy project, as there will have to be some metal riveted from behind to the rear plastic bumper, and then filled and painted to look stock. The problem lies where the metal rear fender connects to the plastic rear bumper. The fender line actually continues onto the plastic part. This is why some sheet metal has to be riveted to it from behind or underneath the fender.

Already bought my tires as well: Continental ExtremeContact DWS- Fronts are 245/40-19 and Rears are 275/35-19

I will keep this thread updated as progress begins on this project!

Mike , no matter how much we do Our cars are never finished. As soon as you finish one thing something else comes along . It is a Never ending Story.

The vents are going in the rear bumper...Norm is making them...hoping he will have them for Maryland like he said.

I appreciate you thinking my car is perfect...but my car is never done LOL. It's a hobby, and as long as I use good taste and judgment, then why the heck not. I'm only going to be single for so long, then we get married and I can't do these big projects.

Good luck, I have always tinkered, in the deep dark recesses of my mind, widening the fenders and throwing on some 295's. Can't wait to see the end result, keep us posted.

Let me give u some fatherly advice...getting married means 2 SINGLE people living together...it's when the number reaches 3...then u r MARRIED

I think I have to agree with you on that one Mike. Wife and I are planning to make a baby this year, and I already can feel the pressure.

Once we have a baby......priorities in life will dramatically change.

Lipstick will probably end receiving new toys once I have a REAL baby.....lol

completely agree with you on that shabster.

I already recommended Steve a set of NT05s and something similar.

But Steve might have some priorities such as longer tire life....and "all season" usage of these tires. I think he drives his car even with slight snow......

so those more sticky tires might not be a priority of him right now.....

That's correct Sky888....I drive my car year round and need something that can handle all of the weather and has a longer life. If I was keeping my old wheels, I would have gone with something stickier, but I need mine to work well in snow and rain on Long Island and I have a few people interested in my wheels. I do not really race the car either, so the need for it isn't really there. The mod as a whole is more aesthetic than anything else.

As for being single until the "3rd" comes along, that's a great point BUTTTTTT when you have to plan and pay for a wedding and engagement ring, the bank account quickly depletes LOL. I am not there yet, but I am also not getting any younger LOL.

that's why before I got married Dec 2008........I already bought the BTF gt3076 kit..........but I guess even when married, I still have the itch......since I still upgraded with a BTF gt3582 kit...and now with a bigger upgrade...lol But I know, I already have the feeling, once I have a baby, priorities will definitely change.....

That engagement ring, wedding, and honeymoon......is REALLY a bank account depleter! lol! That happened to me 3 yrs ago

Anyways, keep us updated on how you are widening your rear.

Project Scarab which is also a solstice will be widening both his front and rear to accomodate wider wheels/tires.

how much are you widening the rear part Steve?
interesting mod. IMHO it could turn awesome or it could end not too good.
it all depends on how much it will widen and how good work the shop will do.
