Am I the only one that see some irony here?  A former Snap-on dealer having a problem finding the right tool for the job.  Sorry SOB I just couldn't resist.

I have something loose now as well.  Gotta get the car on a lift and tighten everything you can see.

Okay -- forget the starter motor bolts. The two top most bell housing bolts are &_$_!_Q(&*@$&$^^$& !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

HUGE thanks to the crew at DDM for walking me through a few challenges from 1200 miles away.

On the semi lighter side -- I could not get the Allen screw on the shifter loose. (I have NO f#cking idea what Wilmington was thinking about with THAT.) When I spoke to Dave about best methods of getting it loose, he said "besides setting the car on fire?". Once THAT yuck was shared, we both opined about how STUPID it was to secure an Allen screw with a torque value of 89 in/lbs with gorilla snot that could keep the Golden Gate Bridge together in an 8.0 quake !!!!!!!!!!! I have been accused of being a "wet blanket", but a wet towel WAS needed to offset the propane torch that was needed.

Anyway, ALL the bolts are out (REALLY !!!!) and in the yayem a friend will join me in the engine/transmission separation. OH the joy that will be the rejoining.

WTF !!!!!!!!!!!!!

On a more serious note, this little project is NOT for the faint of heart. It IS a MO FO. ANYBODY that can get DDM to do this at a mod meet without, sexual overtones, is a MASTER salesman.

Good GOD, I hope I get it right !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

This is the reason why I am glad to be paying Dave/Mike/Randy to do this upgrade for my car. SOB you just confirmed the obvious to me. Why kill yourself when you can get someone else to do it. After all the tools and blowtorch I would have to buy to try and do this one myself... I think I will make out ahead letting DDM have at it.

So are you just upgrading or completely replacing the clutch/transmission? I think everyone was so in tune with helping that no one asked. Or I just missed it in another thread.

On a previous car, the removal and replacement of a transmission was billed as 5-6 hours or so of labour.  The first time round, it took me about 7 hours.  Basically figuring out how to position sockets/wratchets, wrenches, etc to get at all the hard to access fasteners, disconnect hard to reach/access connectors of various sorts, etc. By the time I had done it a few times, I got it down to 90 minutes off and 90 minutes back on.  A friend with the same car, that did not bother reinstalling under car plastic panels, and reinstalling cotter pins, I've personally seen him perform in 65 minutes each way.

It's always easier and significantly faster the second time round

F karma !!!!!!!! It's been a pain. The box is on the floor, and going back in is going to be it's own special treat. Separate thread for the pieces, but after all the pounding, the clutch package was in very good shape. And the flywheel is a weird looking contraption. I weighed it at 27.25 pounds and the Spec is 12.5 pounds.

I just now thought about this but this would be an excellent time to change your transmission fluid while it is out.  Hope I'm not to late.  Amsoil, Royal Purple what ever you think is best.

Bob,

That comment was meant for Carbon Sky since he was laughing at you.

What he and you fail to know is that I've likely swapped more transmissions than either of you likely have (AWD talons/eclipses, FWD, and RWD).  At least 30 transmission swaps, and that doesn't include engine swaps, welding in cages into street cars, etc.

And that wishing negative karma, has a train that makes a return stop too, ha ha ha

I wasn't wishing negative karma, I was just stating a fact.

Don't care about your experience because your obviously not going to help so it amounts to a whole lot of nothing but words

In nor particular order

a) settle down, all is good
b) the gearbox already has GM synthetic transmission lube in, which is VERY good stuff, but I may change it for fresh anyway
c) Spec wheel and +3 clutch, SAC style
d) one should start bragging about ones background in comparison to another's, if they don't know what the other's background is
e) Dave @ DDM has been priceless with his "tech support" on stuff he didn't sell !!!!!!!!!! I bet he is snickering, knowing what I am going through. I sure would !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
f) posted pictures of old and new stuff on another thread
