How would YOU remove the torque arm ?!?!?!?! Dave at DDM said that the left half shaft needed to come out, thus the left upper ball joint was popped. Since the two diff mount bolts had to come out, there was no reason to leave it on a jack !!! So - it's one the floor.

Don't have a torque arm on mine, and didn't have to remove the axle or the pumpkin. That's why Joe and I asked.

Approximately 25000 miles. Actually, the clutch/pressure plate/flywheel are in remarkably good shape. But with the power my car is producing, I no longer had faith in how long it work last before slipping, so out with the old and in with the new.

Bob I was at an open house i baltimore Co at the new GM Allison Transmission Plant in White Marsh. the trouble is they make the heavy duty trannies and clutchs for all the Big pickups H/D stuff , It was very impressive seeing how the new ones are made .They even make the new electric tranny has 2 motors the control different things torque, rpms , their New Clutch assembly looks something like that Blue one

What clutch did you decide to go with?

I also dropped the rear diff both times I had the trans out. much easier to deal with stuft that way.

And don't worry Bob, the upper bell housing bolts get easier the 2nd time you pull the trans

There better NOT be a second time !!!!!!!!!! Spec flywheel (no Fidanzas available with none planned until there was a bank of standing orders) and a Spec 3+. Have new bolts and throwout coming. Won't have the 500 miles on when I get to Lincoln, but life's not fair, is it? And you can't even see where the bonfire was to loosen the shift knob bolt. Really REALLY amazing how many fasteners were not too tight - in places that I never had touched. NOT so amazing how much damage there is to plastic stuff about "cone high".

It seems that "Wrenches and a sense of humor" are needed if one does more than just LOOK at a Kappa. When the Saturn store was still open, as often than not the Service Manager would hand me my parts for me to do the warranty work !!! The work was done quicker, better, and they still processed the claims !!!!

That old flywheel looks like it took a beating. I think you did the right thing changing it proactively!

The new flywheel looks like a work of art!

Actually, the old flywheel looks pretty GOOD. The coloration is quite normal, and the three hot spots have not no ill effect. Doesn't matter, as the old stuff is staying out. BUT, they may go back in when the car is eventually sold.

looking good, any idea on much power the stock clutch can handle. Im around 320 and thinking about changing mine out. Let us know how it feels when you get it back on the road...

Have been less than kind to my clutch. Two seasons in stock tune running 296 Hoosiers on asphalt and concrete, and over 2 season with a LOT more power on 315s, and it has help up fine. But, this year, I have a lot more power, so time to change. I figured I would do it before I NEEDED to do it.

It's been a few years since I changed a clutch, but that one looks beat to me. The small block chevy's and Opel GTs that I have done looked like that when over heated too many times from slipping. Maybe Kappas all look like that!

I have no idea what percentage of clutches actually come out looking better or worse than the ones pictured. But from personal experience, seeing well over a dozen flywheels, they have always had some heat discolouration. Some were towards the end of their life, and would slip under high load and low rpm typically. Some were inspected when transmission and/or engine had to be removed, where the clutch had lots of life left, and they too had some heat discolouration.

I'd be a little more concerned in that the heat discolouration and general wear seem slightly center focused, and with noticeably less pressure being applied towards the circumfrence. I have not always seen this pattern of heat discolouration. Some have been like this, with signs of more wear/heat towards the centre, others where signs of heat/wear were dotted throughout the contact surface of the flywheel. But it doesn't look extreme by any means.

SOB's has a few hot spots that my 2.4 with Hahn didn't have. Even though mine would slip so bad in 3rd/4th merging I just learned to modulate the throttle.

The Exedy for the 2.4 stage ll along with flywheel is nice aside from heavy weight of the pedal and engagement right off the floor.

That low engagement is a real pain. I plan on contacting Spec and discuss the spacer they supplied. Clearly, it isn't thick enough. One thing for sure -- after the season is over it WILL be fixed.
