Useless Elbow Pads?
« on: May 30, 2011, 04:18:11 PM »
So I was at SMMM8 and Sol Asylum and Miller were installing my seat heaters when Joe from JPM noticed I had the black/red interior on my redline. He called me over and asked me if I wanted some one off elbow pads he'd made for someone. They were the red with the SKY redline logo embroidered on them and he said I could have them for only $20.

So I looked at them and they were really nice, but in my mind I was thinking, I don't even put my elbow on the door these things would be useless to me (sorry Joe). I politely declined (surprisingly sometimes I know how to be polite) so he asked if I knew anyone else who would want them, I said no but I would check. I wandered around the meet looking at the cars and most seemed to have the plain black interior. Finally I went back to Joe and said sorry but I didn't see any, if I knew of anyone I would let him know.

A little while later I had thought about it some more and decided that they were only $20 so why not. I have the same logo embroidered on my JPM leather wrapped center console so it would match nicely. I went over the JPM and told Joe I would take them. He and Alex very kindly installed them for me, for which I am additionally grateful, and they looked awesome. Joe then pointed out to me they are actually worth about $300 piece as they had to cut apart two seats to make these pads. Nice savings for me!

The best part, to my shagrin these things are fantastic. I never put my elbow on the door because with the way I sit my arms aren't long enough to comfortably reach the door. Now that there is extra height they fit perfectly! I drove the entire 6 1/2 hours home with my elbows sitting on the door pads.

JPM - I thank you, but most importantly, my elbows thank you! I never thought I would say this but if anyone is thinking of buying these, the are definitely a good investment.

P.S. To whomever had JPM make these and then changed their mind - thanks!

Thanks, SHiNY, I won the ones in the raffle and was very ambivalent about putting them on.  Now I'll rethink that :)

You're welcome TS!

Before installing, check with JPM, they used some kind of cleaner to make sure any kind of armoral or anything similar to that was removed to ensure they stuck better.

Another picture with the matching center console. The buttons are the "recessed" seat heater buttons. Sol Asylum notched out the console to make it look sweet!

I am totally jealous of the elbow pads! they are awesome! and your heated seats will never get accidentally turned on with the sweet switch guarding. SA said he wanted to make your install "custom and cool" and I think he definitely succeeded!

According to the can Alex had, the liquid was clearly re-labeled as "new car smell"

I had Joe install a set of the elbow pads last year at Canton. I was skeptical also. I love them and so do my elbows. :yay: :yay:

That's the first thing I thought.
I'll have to test them out.  I dont rest my elbow because I can't reach either.
Switches came out awesome. Love how you notched the center console

I think Joe was messing with you: "Joe then pointed out to me they are actually worth about $300 piece as they had to cut apart two seats to make these pads."..... If that was so you would see old stitch marks about 1 1/2" below the word SKY and the RedLine Box......  ;)

Not necessarily.   The leather could have come from a blank section of the seat and then had the Sky logo stitched by Joe.  My assumption would be that this was done with material Joe had removed from someone else's seats who had purchased custom seat coverings, with the intention of matching the red leather of the Sky interior perfectly on the elbow pads.

I was thinking they were saying that it came from the section that said "SKY" with the redline box next to it....
The Cardinal Red that Joe & Alex (JPM) get to match the existing interior are a perfect match....  :)

I've not spent much time around the Sky model but could it have come from a non redline?  Or did they not put "Sky" on the NA models?

I would think non RL models would not have the "red line symbol" after the word sky.

IIRC they don't have stitched seats, but I could be wrong. I don't see very many base model skys.

Base models don't have stitching in the seat.

If it really matters to everyone I'll measure later (seats and elbows!). However, the point of this thread was really to show that even though I didn't think there was much use for these I was completely wrong and would highly recommend them to anyone that was thinking of purchasing them.

Yeah, wish I had been there to witness the original offer.  I would have clued you in to how great these are for those of us who are somewhat vertically challenged.  I have had them on my car for several years now, and they make the door arm rest just the right height so that I can actually "rest" my arm on the door.

I also got a "fail" from Morfious for not having JPM add the driver's knee rest to my car while they were adding just about everything else they could to the interior, so I may need to consider adding that as well.

JPM is just all around awesome!!!!

Yea

I'm thinking next Mod meet will be me giving JPM more money to finish off the interior.
I made the mistake of Driving Joe's car.  Freaking amazing work.

Just to clarify, we made these pads with the seat backs from a sky redline.  The embroidery and leather are from the actual seat.  We had two red/black seats from a redline in the shop that we used for the hardware in one of our own seats.  We took advantage of the logo area and made these pads as a one time custom product that was suppose to be given away at nationals in Denver.  The person that won them did not care for the look and gave them back to us in exchange for a different design.  They are truly one of a kind and have never been replicated (and probably won't be).  True, we can use a matching leather and embroider them to look like these, but they'll never be factory.

Thanks for the write up Karen.
