Possible site issue
« on: June 17, 2011, 10:14:05 PM »
I have noticed over the last month or two that I will get an OOPS screen when I try to load a page or hit the back button like this one.
[ Guests cannot view attachments ]
It doesn't seem to matter if I am at home, work, or using my phone so I don't think its an ISP problem.

Anyone else having this issue?

I've been seeing that screen off and on at home and at work. Seems to be getting a little more frequent, however refreshing the screen usually solves the problem. When that doesn't, linking in from the home page does work.

I get that and so does Reed. Each time we're like "Oh no, I crashed the forum!"

Sometimes hitting back helps. Other times I exit the forum screen and go back in from the home page and it's fine.

It happens to me on a daily basis but only on my work computer.  Sometimes hitting the back button works but more often than not I have to exit and reenter.

This happens for two reasons.  database errors or server problems

I have noticed it also and I've called tech support, they tell me that the server is over tasked.  They stated one of their users is violating their terms of services (didn't know it until I complained) and when they identify which one, they will terminate their account.  The problem should resolve itself.

Usually I can tell right away if it's a server or database error.  If it's a server error like I wrote about above, I won't be able to connect the HostGator Admin page to do maintenance

I run maintenance every morning and perform backups, yesterday is when I called tech support because I could connect to either.

Joe, sounds like terminating the account will set things right?  But if the server is over tasked does that speak to another issue or are we ok?

That sounds BS to me, they must know in every moment what happens on their servers, they don't have to wait to identify, read the logs and they have the answer

:agree:  If they can't tell who is causing the problem they should be shot.  At gun point!

Is this something that's browser-specific?  I use Firefox and never see the problem, though I do see some long refresh/update times on occasion.  Of course, maybe it is a server response issue and some browser(s) just don't handle it well.

For those who see the issue, are you all using Microsoft IE (and which version)?  If not, which browser?

I use Firefox and Chrome and happens on both, the error generally is db connection or 500 error (server), don't think this is a client side problem, hoster confirmed there is a problem with the server.

You know oddly enough drunk posts could still be on topic as it may end up being a site issue.  Or would it be a sight issue?
