Received and installed the JPM shifter (classic white ball and engraved  5spd pattern).  Previously I had installed a tacky red sock over the stock leather manual shifter to keep if from becoming worn looking.  The stock shifter appears to have some type of rubber grommet shifter dampener molded into the shift handle (maybe to absorb vibration?).  JPM is totally aluminum alloy so you can feel a little vibration as you shift.  It's not bad, it just feels like you can feel the vibration of the transmission gears up through the handle as you shift (or on the ball between shifting).  Feels mechanical, more like a sports car manual should feel.  Also, with the OEM shifting between 3 to 4 always seem to be hit or miss.  With the JPM it seems to be sliding right into 3 to 4, feels intuituive, or maybe I just want it to feel different now.   Regardless, glad I made the switch, and replacement was that difficult.  OEM set screw came right out, spent most of the time getting the black leather down on the inner black plastic ring and than inserting it back into the ABS chrome trim to keep it stock looking as possible.

Got drywall dust on the car. Fixed some drywall and I'm painting the garage and although I pulled the car out, the dust managed to find it. It'll be good to get the garage painted though 'cause the paint was peeling pretty bad from the last time I painted it four years ago. I painted it just before I brought the Solstice home.

Should have her room all prettied up for her by tomorrow.

After two years I let my wife drive. I have to say it was fun being a passenger... until she went over 100... then not so much.

By any chance, did you loosen the retaining nut on the tops of the front coilovers?  I was about to run out for errands just now when I heard a rattling from the front end.  Checked all my work, and all was fine, but then I got to the top where there's that metal disc at the top of the shock held on by a nut threaded onto the stud exiting the top of the shock with an allen hex slot cut into the top of it.  No big deal, had to tighten it with a 15mm, but found it odd that they were loose unless at some point you replaced the springs?

When I bought my car I got an automatic. I did that because my wife said she could drive it if I got the auto. I've had the car over four years and I STILL can't get her to drive it. She's too afraid "hurting" it.    :gaah:

GM SPO shocks do not come with ZOK springs.
I removed the GMPP springs and replaced them with the ZOK springs.  Same Spring rate, but about 1/2" lower.

Details are in the attachment

Ah, that all makes sense now.  I was thinking, these look lower than the normal GMPP setup.

Fronts were easy since they are accessible from the engine bay.  Will check on the rears later this week.  They seem silent, and I need the car tomorrow afternoon, so I'll get to them Thursday.

BTW, a weird thing happened to me the other day.  I went into my trunk to get my compressor.  I power it off a booster pack with a 12V cigarette lighter outlet to pump up my mountain bike tires.  When I pulled it out of the trunk, I noticed that there was some off white to off white stuff int he clear tube that the sealant comes out from.

I've used this compressor MANY times now (I adjust tire pressure weekly, and use it on my mountain bike, etc) and have never had an issue with it.  I know I put it back without this problem.  So unless the pump managed to power itself up in my trunk, I'm going to say it leaked.  The only thing I can think of is, it's been REALLY hot the last couple weeks.  Many days in the high 30* C, and over 40* C with the humidity, let alone how hot it can get with a black car in the sun.  But I dunno.  Can't really explain it.  Good thing it didn't leak too badly.  Most of it was contained within the foam mount, and peeled off easily.

Just thought I'd send out a little "check your sealant" reminder.  I've always kept a can of extra sealant (higher quality, and guaranteed not to freeze) and a proper patch kit with the vulcanizing patch strips in my car anyways.  I'd hate to actually use the injected sealant, so I've decided I will only keep the compressor and the patch kit in my car now, without the sealant of any kind.

Changed the oil in the 2.4 w/Mobile 1 10w30.  Attempted to reset DIC oil monitor by reading the manual, but for whatever reason it continues to say 60%?

Also, was also going to change the 2.0.  Autozone computer says 5w30, when the 2.0 cap clearly states 10w30?

It states in the owners manual starting on page 5-14 to only use 5W30 synthetic.

(Copied from the manual)

Look for two things:
• GM6094M
Your vehicle’s engine requires oil meeting GM
Standard GM6094M. You should look for and use
only an oil that meets GM Standard GM6094M.
• SAE 5W-30
As shown in the viscosity chart, SAE 5W-30 is best
for your vehicle.

Because I have no life
1. I just ran home opened the hood of the NA and the 2.4 oil cap states 5W30 (no Mobile 1 designation)

2. Opened the hood of the 2.0 and pried off yet again the MRZ oil cap where it states 5w30 (& Mobile 1 designation) on the oil cap.

So can only surmise that the Autozone rep informed me of the wrong weight for the 2.4, and while on my way home will return and trade the 10W30 Mobile 1 for the 5W30 Mobile 1 for the 2.0.

I think for extremely hot climates 10W30 is recommended  I will have to look in the book.

I had assumed the ZOK were the same ride height as the GMPP.  It's a good ride height.  Low enough to feel noticeable in a corner, without being so slammed it's a pain on anything but a smooth road.  Looks great to boot now too.  Can't wait to plasti-dip the rims matte black.

Finished my 2 exams, so it's back to working on the car tomorrow.  Just in time for another blast of above average temperature weather again yay!

I think for extremely hot climates 10W30 is recommended  I will have to look in the book.

That doesn't make sense.  The change from the 5 to the 10 is the cold weight.  I'm sure having a slightly thinner oil at start up couldn't hurt in cold or hot weather.  The 30 is the hot weight, and the oil temperature in the car in hot and cold weather is not that far off due to the car's cooling system keeping everything within a relatively narrow range.  That's the one that you'd like to have higher viscosity to deal with higher temperatures.  So in that case you'd be wanting something like a 5w-40 or 10w-40.

I run full synthetic AMSOIL 5w-40 from about April to about about October, and 0w-30 from about October to April.  When I run out of 5w-40 soon, I'll probably go back to 5w-30.  I just had some 5w-40 kicking around from when my pops used to run it on his turbocharged Volvos.  The higher hot viscosity was apparently good for "european" cars, particularly those with turbos.  And I've noticed even less oil loss between 6 month oil changes (used to lose about .3-.4L/oil change, with the 5w-40 it's like .2-.3L) on the 5w-40.

CS -  Okay,  since I have an hour before my engineer shows up and we can get to work, I walked out to the car.  I got my book out of the glovebox and in section 5 it says the recommended oil is 5w30 for all occasions.  Oils of a different viscosity are not recommended.  and it mentioned a couple of 40 weights specifically not to use.   I believe 5w and 10w but I don't remember.  That is on an 06 NA.

An 06 NA is a far cry from an 08 LNF.  And unless you can explain to me how I'm interpreting the weight indications of oil, I would think 10w-30 would be more of a problem on a car designed to run 5w-30 than 5w-40 on a car with a turbo, particularly if you are running plus 16 psi of boost (stock).

Had to re solder the keyless entry fob today. It wasn't working more than it was working and when I opened it you could see the battery clip just hanging there. Works great now.

Went to my sister's after to drop off the cat. She's gonna watch it while we are at Wade's Garage and she was having problems with her fobs as well on her G6. I looked at it and she needs a new rubber key pad for hers. Five bucks from ebay for a new case.

I have to wonder why it took so long to redesign these things because they really aren't the best set up.
