There are 12 second kappas right here without a tonne of mods.

http://www.kappaperformance.com/forum/index.php?topic=932.50

Guess it did happen.  They've been posted for more than a year.

Never said it couldn't be done. Where's your slips?

And this was with a manual Sky RL (with a catback, which doesn't add any power with this setup, and no other power adders).  The lowest time a kappa with one of my tunes ran was an auto that was a lower 12.9, and it also had only a catback, and no other power adders.

How much power you figure your running? Was this with stock tires? If so very impressive!

How much power you figure your running?

I don't want to give you a hard and fast number because I've never dynoed on a heart breaker dyno, but I can comfortably say the power is over 300hp, and the torque is over 350 ft lbs.

The point I was trying to make is that our cars are not very good at hooking up for drag strip times. If your tunes are making 300 hp then in a perfect world mid 12's are possible at ~110 mph. I asked a long time ago on this forum and others what could we do to get our cars to hook up better at launch. Kind of like old school tech ladder bars but I don't think there is any equivalient for independent suspensions like we have. Of course our cars are built more for curves than straights...

Yup both were on the stock Goodyear GS-2 tires.  The RL had about 40% depth left, the GXP about 20-25%.

I've run a 98' Maxima at the track way back in the day for fun.  Back then, no one believed I could run sub 15 on a stock maxima (published 1/4 mile times were apparently all 15+).  I ran a 14.6, bone stock except for a catback.  Later on, I ran it with a about a wet 100 shot for shits and giggles, and ran a 13 with it with a 1.9 60 ft.  However, I also snapped an axle once after a little too much axle hop off the line.

Maxima was bone stock (except catback)? I think those were rated at 190 hp on a 3000 pound+ car. If so Nissan must have really under rated their hp numbers or the stock exhaust was very restrictive.

I agree with you, the rear suspension is not setup for drag racing by any means.

But to say running 12s for a car that weighs around 3000 lbs and makes over 300hp and 350 ft lbs is exceedingly difficult to near impossibility, is severely discounting what this platform can do.

Yup, it was the 210 ft lbs on that VQ30, and the 5 speed manual, and as aggressive of a launch as I could get out of it.

Thinking back now, I forgot to mention, I did put in almost solid engine mounts, and polyurethane control arm bushings to help reduce axle hop from the drivetrain flexing/moving.  That allowed me to get my 60 ft times from over 2s to under 2s.  Also helped that the car was so light it was about the same if not lighter than my Sky   It was also less rigid even though it was a sedan and not a convertible though.

Did you strip out the interior to lighten it up? Looks like it has a listed curb weight around 3085.

I had a chance to watch an R/T Challenger the other day launch from a redlight. No way was he stock but the point is he had veryless wheel spin even in first than I get (I know driver skill counts but he sure sounded like he was wot) and those Challenger tires are way to skinny (pretty sure there only running 235's) for that engine. He had virtually no wheel spin shifting into second. That's the kind of grip I'd like to get.

Nope, I'll be honest, I have no idea how they came to that weight.  I have no idea what the "real" weight was, but that maxima was not very heavy at all.

doesn't the boss have a 12 time slip?  But I think he used SpeedRacers tires.

His sig shows a 13.2. Don't know if he has since bested that or not. That's with 285 hp at the wheels. Kappa's just aren't the best at hooking up. At least not with stock tires.

GJ - Were you running HP tuners? How much psi? Are Yokohoma tires made from a fairly sticky compound? I was thinking of Nitto's but now not so sure...

Those are really nice times by the way.

I believe GJ had a Westers tune on his GXP.  The guard rail makes me think the Yoko's weren't too sticky.

Speedracer got into the mid 12s with a Westers tune on top of the GMPP tune.  He does have an automatic and runs drag radials on lighter rims and does his 1/4 runs at what is considered one of the best east coast tracks.   As such, the combination of his tires and track prep equates into excellent traction.

Kelu, Myself and a bunch of others did see his time slips.

So I would think a good shifter, if his redline was increased and he can break 100mph in 3rd gear, could possibly break into the high 12s, but that will be determined by a lot of driver skill
Not only I saw speedracer's slips but also I saw him racing and doing 12s easy, I was there at the drag strips with him, the others like elff were sleeping while we were at the strip  :poke:

Yup both were on the stock Goodyear GS-2 tires.  The RL had about 40% depth left, the GXP about 20-25%.

Hate to change the subject, but I dropped the NA off at the body shop to get the front fascia repaired. Got damaged at the dealer a while back.  :censor:

1.7s on 60ft with Goodyear GS-2???

I don't think that's impressive.  I think the 1.9s 60ft with my old 98 Maxima with Toyo T1-S tires is impressive.  Like I said, ended up snapping the driver side axle in it once from a little too much wheel hop off the line.  It shattered long before I made it to the 60 ft.  And that was with an aftermarket upgraded axle.  Axle hop's brutal!
