How to clean a CAT?

Any special trick to cleaning a stock cat? I'm thinking that the lingering smoke could be from the cr@p that's accumulating in the CAT being burnt off...  :idk:
It's running fine, although what a dog after driving BoB...

I wondered the same thing, and all the seals, rings. I think I'd rather pull it off and give it a bath, seems less possibility of problems.

And I'd bet some serious $$ that the shop is hoping, I do something, *anything* to give them an out to this issue! No chance. going to be pulling the CAI tubing, they noted that the 'aftermarket intake was "dirty" thereby causing an air quality issue', and giving it a bath, and changing out the filter for a cleaned one.

Seriously, I have never heard of anyone cleaning a cat. The temps inside will pretty much vaporize any lingering fluids. If there are any residuals in the cat they are very likely insoluable with any kind of chemicals.

I think I need a 'WTF is wrong with Kenny now" thread.
Now, this may be "normal" but its the first time I've noted this. Pulled the CAI off, to fully clean inside & out, since the shop said it was 'dirty'. Hardly any dust even inside the pipe....however...the hose that connect from the CAI pipe above the sensor, to the top of the engine? It literally slid right off, and after removing it, I brought it inside for a picture...
This is the bottom of the connector tube for that hose...

Why yes, that is what it looks like...

with the pipe going down hill, the path for the oil spill was down towards the filter...but what upstream could be contaminated with oil, that would be detrimental to ?? , figuring with air flowing in, past the oil, could carry some up towards the intake area?

Forgot that I have a spare cat, so I will bathe the spare, then just swap, perhaps manana.

yep. going to talk to GM CC, dealer wants 1000 miles more delay, which is bs, it's already got at least 2k on it since the post work issues were discovered. if I only drive it to and from work, it will take months to get to that, @ 10 miles x 5, max. per week. and I don't drive it every day.

Well if you would like to pickup a thousand miles, I can just drive yours to my work and back for 2 weeks. That will get you 1k on the odo :) Pretty sure you arent really close to ohio though.

actually I just have to hang a left at Hammond, IN. the problem is whether it can make it that far...a simple trip to the sw corner of WI resulted in a stay at the local shop...  :gaah:
