A bunch of us are total HP Tuner Newbies.

Anyone want to give use a quick break down on how to set it up and use it?
Kind of like the yellow books you can buy on all sorts of subjects?

Basics like, which program does what.
How to get your baseline scan
Etc.

Going to create a log on on HP Tuners and start reading.

I managed to snag a really good size laptop for my HPTuner machine.
Dell Latitude D430 with an SSD HD. Runs Win7 quite nice.

That looks perfect for the job, I'm aiming an Asus EeePC 1001PXD mostly because a real +6h battery but I can't afford for the moment is about $400 around here.

That was my first thought but my Macbook is a 17" model. It's more of a desktop replacement than a laptop, so getting my hands on a free laptop worked out perfect. Its also not an issue if this one gets stolen.
The Macbook, on the other hand would have me pissed.

All those NEW to HPT a piece of advice.
Always keep a copy of the current version of HPT software as well as your STOCK & CURRENT tune on another PC, Laptop or on a USB thumb drive Just in case your main lappy crashes the HD.
Also ONLY use a FULLY CHARGED LAPTOP BATTERY or AC ADAPTER CORD to power the LAPTOP preferably a FULLY CHARGED BATTERY anything else is asking for trouble.

Oh yeah, that 17 will hit the passenger's side firewall very hard if you have to brake unexpectedly

I just wanted to personally thank you shabby for all your contributions to tuning the LNF. I did a lot of research, and lurked the HPTuner forum, and you have provided so much.

For all you guys running LNFs, if all you do is address the issues involved in those 3 threads, you'll already have a pretty serious tune. Definitely more than the GMPP for example.

Honestly, read, check, double check, triple check, etc, you get the idea . . . and if all you do are the changes for the first 2 of 3 links, you're already doing great. After that point, it does get a little tricky. But ease into it. I've had it for like a year and a half now, and with my occasional tinkering, I'm working my way through short term and long term fuel trims. I think by then it'll be great. I haven't datalogged enough yet to fill in enough cells to tune it yet, but I'll be getting on that tomorrow.

I was going through some stuff lately and was looking at how to enable and disable the engine code for a hi flow cat.
In everything that I have found and read on the internet I keep seeing something mentioned about
SES Enable or Disable in the DTC screen.

When I go to the DTC screen, I don't have the SES column. I only have 2.
The left is the code list descriptions and the right column is the Fault Class.
I have the advanced view enabled.

Am I missing something, or do we not get the SES column for the lnf?
I am using HPT 2.23.404

I think I am ready to take the plunge and purchase an HP Tuner for my car. I want the latest and greatest edition. Should I buy a newer used one or purchase it brand new? Do I need a cable or can I use the one that came with my BSR Tuner?

HPT is one price for each pkg. No group buy deals or anything like that.

Odds of finding one used are slim, but they are out there.

You need the Scanner. It is proprietary to the software.
You can get the latest software after you prove that you own the scanner, whether it is used or new.

Used ones are out there, it's just a matter of how many unused credits they have remaining so you can license your vehicle. You need a bare minimum of 2 credits to license a single vehicle.
If you find a used one, look for someone who licensed the entire year of your car. That is the best bet. You can have them connect the scanner to their laptop and ask them to do a print screen of the credits.

You will need their cable, that is what has all the HPTuner information. The software has your information. Once you buy it you can go to their web site, register your cable and have the latest software sent to you. You will need 2 credits for each car or 6 credits for the model and year of your car.
