Topic: about to do a clutch swap any pointers??

so tomorrow or friday im going to do a clutch swap slave cylinder and flywheel if anyone out there has done this it would be appreciated any tips on issues they ran into. i do have the gm procedure so i do know some of it. my car is a 2007 2.4 liter and is  equipped  with a torque arm.

What flywheel? And why such a heavy clutch??

WHATEVER you do, consult with DDM first. They may have the most experience with this.

If there are the same issues on the 2.4 and the 2.0, be ready for some possible headaches. My 3+ and light flywheel work great, but the engagement point is awful. Spec flatly stated that they have no reports of issues. Spoke with Rich Hammond at Solo Nats, and he had the same problems I had. Actually, still would like to read of somebody that HASN'T had issues. Frankly, I think that the spacer behind the slave is to thin.

My trans will be coming out late this month to see how I can improve the situation. I'll be measuring the stack height, but do not expect errors there. But, before that happens, I will try some other methods to bleed the hydraulics JUST in case I messed that up. (After speaking with others, I am sure that air is NOT the cause.) If bleeding doesn't fix it, a Werks spacer will go in with the Spec spacer.

You'll need some skinny arms to reach some of the bolts to the bell housing(especially on the top), along with a number of extensions to get to the hidden one near the starter. I used a mirror(compact makeup that a girl gave me in college) to help see in the tight spots.

To get the driveshaft out I removed the leading differential bolt and lossened the two on the rear. No need to remove half shafts like SOB did on RL.

I tall hydralic floor jack and transmission jack is a must as the car needs to be high enough to move the transmission out of the way.

im going with the stock fflywheel dont really have the cash to spring for the aftermarket as for ording the stage 4 i consulted dave about it and decided a 4 over a 3 cause i suspected the the springs went in my stock one and my suspicions where right thats exactly what happened and the 4 is unsprung. i got the trans out clutch out and new flywheel on with a new slave in and bob all i can say is i bow to you this was a pain in the a** so far and well i would never do it with out a lift. so i hope all goes well and here are the pics of what happened to my clutch..

Bunch of broken springs and parts in there, the spec 4 should hold it.

ya i went unsprung to make it simple simpler means less parts to break

Must be that instant torque from the supercharger.

I went 25,000 miles on my motorcycle without a chain adjustment until my clutch cable had two strains left on it and I just used the clutch in 1st gear and just matched the revs shifting up and down. Then my cahain started to stretch. I could figure how this guys were stretching chains and figure they are just mismatching shifts.

Yours really looks rough. Friction material is gone (eating fastener heads) Lots of corrosion on it. Is that normal to have that much corrosion?

That looks like the clutches that I have pulled out even the broken springs.  Actually the ones I have removed have had a lot more wear.  But then you don't generally pull a clutch because they are good.

I'll be changing mine out soon.  I'm going with the Spec 3+.  Should I go with an aftermarket flywheel? I have the money for it, so it's not a problem...
