Wheel liner rubber seal strips - photos?
« on: October 04, 2011, 09:06:20 AM »
In other posts I've seen discussion about how some folks have weatherstrip on their wheelarches between the liners and the hood.  I went up to the Carlisle Swap meet last week and happened to pick up a 5' length of self-stick rubber weatherstrip from the Steele Rubber Products tent, but I'm not sure now where it goes exactly.  Does anyone have (or can take) photos of where the factory strips are applied?

Thanks, TS

Hope these help.  The seal is right on the lip of the wheel liner.

Let me know if you need a better angle or closer shot.

My Solstice did not originally come with them.  They were talked about on the SF and I went to my local dealer and examined them on the newer Solstice in the dealers showroom and ordered a set.

Oh, something interesting.  I had lunch with a local guy who bought a 2009 Aggressive GXP coupe.  His coupe did not have the seals on the wheel liner......not sure why.

I don't think any of the cars came with them, the seal that they started putting on the car in 07 was on the fender lip

I saw this on cars in the dealership and I thought I also saw it at MECCA.

My Coupe did not have them......I added some...however I added them to the Hood and attached them to the plastic rub coatings.  YMMV

I used M-D Building Products, Tear Drop Profile, Ultra Weatherseal, that I bought at Home Depot.  Scan Code 043374686685

They work!

Seems like the weatherstrip issue was discussed a few months ago, neither our early 06 vert (bought used) or late 09 GXP coupe (original owners) has them.  If the factory didn't install them I'm going to assume they didn't feel they're needed.  Is it a engine bay sealing or a noise, vibration, harshness (NVH) issue or a combination?

I grabbed a door weatherstripping out of a BMW M3, cut it up to size, and applied it to the fender edge.

VOILA!  My GM has a BMW part!

(Only fair since I stuck a GM chiclet on my old M3 coupe hood roundel after painting it body color)
