Speaking of all this, my build is nearly complete - Solstice Coupe GXP with LS3, Tremec, True Dual Exhaust, Custom Dyno Tune, oh, and an Edelbrock E Force supercharger (the high boost version). Hoping for startup vids this week from Werks.

BTW, I don't see a way to include attachments. I click on "Attachments and other options" but it does not give me a way to attach. Do I need to be a higher level member? (I have a lot of stuff on the Solstice Forum).

Is it going to fit under the stock hood with the blower, or is your hood being modified/replaced?

sbindley, thanks for the LS3 startup, wow, it sounds awesome. I see you hail from Arizona where we used to live, wow, what a place to drive this baby, be sure to take in the Huachuca mountains and twisties near Fort Huachuca and also the canyons in the hill country. Anyway, keep us updated.

Hoping blower is completed today. Hood is the wild card. They just made new engine mounts that allow the engine to sit lower and they won't know if it clears until they put the hood back on. We have ideas on hood bulges, scoops, etc if we have to go that route. I'm hoping not, mostly in the interested of time.

You can run pretty tight clearance. I've dropped engine mounts, flipped throttle bodies upside down or carved off bits I didn't need functionally and shaved the underside of the bonnet to gain clearance and gone with as little as 1/8" successfully. Hope you can fit it under there without surgery, but my vote would be for a modest hood bulge if you need anything - the car would be great as a sleeper.

Don't know if there is an upper cover that is removable or could be shaved on the blower, although it would be a shame to have to do that unless it was the only way, as it looks so nice.

Thanks, Bill. The blower cover is part of the intake manifold, so don't think there is much trimming there. I do know the underside of the hood has all kinds of bracing, so perhaps they can trim here and there and shore up around it. Just hard to say as I am here in AZ in the car is in IL. Here is a link the the blower on a Vette, which is the kit we are using. (Sorry for the long link, not sure why I cannot post attachments)

Yup - can't do much with the cover, for sure.

Might be a little scope on the hood underside. I installed a sixpack carb set up on a big block Chrysler in one of my Jensens - the fibreglass bodied one - and had a choice of a structural brace that kept the hood stiff or the large pancake air cleaner. Chose to remove the brace and never had any problems with it. If you need to, and it is close enough, maybe you can do a bit of relieving on the underside of the hood. A master body man (and there are sadly few of these around today) can tap out a very slight bulge with no cutting or welding but of course you'd need a quick respray.

I know that Werks did some underhood surgery on the crazy LS7 build they finished this summer for clearance reasons. Dave said his body guy is really good. Should know something today hopefully. Funny, the only reason I considered the blower is that the Edelbrock unit fits all the applications without changing the hood. But there was only one way to find out on the Sol...

And if it doesn't and we had a say as to what should be done, I would vote for a simple hump on the hood to tie in with the lines of the car.

LOL. I also wish it were mine. Since we're discussing how to spend someone else's money on a hood, I respectfully disagree w/ you, Bob

I'd use it as an excuse to go with something more aggressive and custom. Something that merges the Mallett/SSBC SEMA hood with the Club Racer concept car hood.

Thanks for the input. I definitely want to go clean and subtle with the hood if I have to modify it. Here are a couple of other hood ideas. One, just a simple, centered bump (my preference) and the other is Wade's scoop from his Solbra -- of course, if I went with a scoop, I would have it seamlessly melded on, not riveted (Wade was going for the old Cobra style and those were riveted on top). As for the clearance, this kit does clear stock Vettes and Camaros, but does not clear the Solstice without some surgery. Dave had already made new, one-off motor mounts to lower the engine more, and is working on a TB elbow to clear that area up front. The SC manifold is the final hurdle, and it may fit with some underhood doctoring/trimming. Dave let me know once the parts came in that it would not fit right out of the box and I had the choice to send the SC back and take the LS3 and be back on the road. I chose to go with the blower and have something very unique. The hardest part is the waiting. If we need to do a major hood mod, I'm sure that will take several weeks at least, which is tough if the rest of the car is finished. Will keep everyone posted. I'd love any other hood ideas/photos. I have been searching for weeks and had not seen the Club Racer Concept car before.

BTW, since I have not posted much on this forum. Here is the mild interior upgrade I did - a two-tone look.
