Hey Guys....
« on: December 12, 2011, 06:50:17 PM »
Quick question...
Would taking the stock wideband o2 out of the downpipe cause the motor to nuke itself? My Tuner took the stock wideband out to try to tune the car a nuked cyl 3.

I know the answer to my question, but I want to know what you guys think and why.

Thanks!!

welp, tuner shops says the 3rd cyl is f-ed, the cylinder is now oblong shaped instead of round. so, essentially, the motor is toast! should i rebuild, swap to v8, or 2JZ? lemme know guys!

$hit.... sorry about that Racer X.. sad to hear the motor is blown...

from now on, it all depends on the money you have available and willing to spend.
i would say a V8 would be awesome. what would also be very nice, is to get a new LNF, make it bulletproof (pistons, rods, valves, springs etc) and go with a bigger turbo

I agree with miller11386.  I would say that if all depends on how much you love your Kappa!  The timing is not perfect with Christmas coming up and other financial concerns right now but it is what it is and as fate would have it being the Christmas season there are other financial concerns but keep your 2008 Sly GXP!!!

As a sidenote many on this forum including me Carol and I will never git rid of their Kappa.  Only thing that would intervene in the ownership of "Miss Red Eagle" would be another head on collision like on our Victory Red 1995 Firebird Forumula.  You have to make the decision but follow your heart and what it tells you!  I would rebuild, easy response cause GM doesn't build them anymore.  Good luck with your decision!

might as well swap it it with a V8...then have a twin rear mount turbos ;)

so you'll be the only one with that set-up......and easier to tune

Wouldn't RacerX need to do the suing

I totally agree, they blew up the engine by doing something they should not have done.
They should cover the cost to replace the engine.

I have no idea why they would pull the primary O2 sensor from the car while tuning, that would mean they have no idea what they are doing tuning these cars. There are times where we will remove the secondary O2 sensor to place another sensor in that spot while tuning just to verify the factory wideband, but we never remove the primary O2 sensor while the engine is running.

The primary O2 sensor is being used by the ECM for fuel trims to adjust the fuel to hit target air fuel ratios. If the MAF tables were being tuned and were off enough, the ECM would not be able to adjust the air fuel to hit the target. The thing is, with the factory O2 sensor sitting out of the exhaust, the ECM would have been reading that as an artificial lean condition, which means it should of tried dumping fuel to get the air/fuel back to its target. Why did they remove the primary O2?

Why did they remove the primary O2?

that's the biggest question Dave!

It's one of the primary sensors in tuning.

That tuner did an idiotic thing..............and should be fully liable.
And get Alfred a new engine.......and all the labor should be included.

Might be a long shot for you...........unless you buy an engine from a "wrecked"  LNF vehicle at the junk shop or have any connections from insurance companies.      Or some forum member, doesn't need his lnf block anymore, and will just "give" it away for very cheap.

I sold my other stock LNF block with crank a year ago to john jones of the sol forum for only $800.   And that's cheap.

if our current vendors dont have a $500 block w/ crank for you..................aren't you interested in just buying the built block of the cobalt vendor?    since you're already interested in buying their head/cam combo anyway.   they might give you a price break on their built block........if u buy everything from them....

I have found a new direction for my build and I plan to just use my car's block & crank at this point.

I have some stuff planned with parts that are coming out and being developed, so I will just go with that instead :)

I just dont think the cobalt vendors method is reliable. They are proving that it may be, however I just dont trust it, and I have heard some horror stories about their service.

good!

I'm not into girdle/block guard! ;)

I like sleeves  :)

And yeah, all vendors have their dark sides!    It's how they make things right, which is important!

I've dealt tons of times with both DDM and WERKS.    Things didn't go right some times...........but its how fast.......they correctly addressed the issues...which makes them a GREAT vendor :)
