been trying to go to RI website....but I can't find any answer.

i was just wondering if installing roll cage/roll bars to our kappas will pass state inspection?

*** actually my car in its current situation wont even pass state inspection already (i.e.  tinted headlights/brake lights,  dark tinted windows, no cat, no front plates, etc.)   lol

As long as it did not take away from any of the vehicles safety aspects I don't see why it would make a difference one way or the other. Of course some states are more draconian than others...

From what I have read roll bars are no easy thing to do with our platform.

X2 what Brazen says.
The key will be if it affects visibility and if the inspector cares.

Brazen, i like the word "draconian" you used!! there's a big history behind it..

My opinion and what applies in Greece: car with roll cage won't pass inspection, coz the specific vehicle with the roll cage hasn't passed any test as to if the roll cage can protect instead of hurting the driver and passengers. furthermore, they don't know if the roll cage will negatively affect the driver-passengers on the other car (if engaged in an accident).

maybe in the USA different law applies. i would suggest to ask the corresponding department

does anybody have more info or photos on how graywolf did his roll bars???

I only have this:

I wonder if he still can use his soft top?

or he already removed the soft top with the installation of his roll bars?

I wish I can see a photo of his trunk....

Hey, that's cool.  I missed that when it was originally posted (and any possible subsequent posts).

I'd love to see installation pics too!   The Tjin cage was GORGEOUS... i loved the build pics :)

edit, unfortunately Unique Fabrication took down all  their build pics   :(

Yeah, the tjin solstice's roll cage is awesome.   I love it.......for a pure show car/track car.  But it involves more cutting and slicing of the car.

You need a hard top if you will use it in a place where it rains and daily drive it :)

Which means more $$$ to spend....lol

Unlike the roll bars of graywolf, the trunk wasn't touched at all.  And the soft top will still function.   It's more "practical" for me....lol.   I still would love to use the car when I go to work once in a while :)
But will be able to bring it to the strip and allowed to run it.

less $$$ involve in modifications  :)

The windshield is a slow fold when the top is down, there have been a couple of roll overs and they have walked away.  There was one that went off a cliff with a couple of journalists in it, came to a stop 100 feet later.  They died on inpact.  So it depends on how the car not only flips but how it lands.

Isn't there something in the seats too Critter? I thought Dengel said that's what protected her. That and her seatbelt!

Intereting idea. Would make for a nice installation and the seal modifications do not too difficult either for those of us not using STATUS racing seats. It would also allow the use of a racing harness (4-5 point). I have always wanted a DD with a 4-5 point harness.

Jer - check with your state before you put in a 4/5 point harness.  They won't pass inspection in some states.  Something to do with getting you out in the event of an accident.

Hi Jeremy........FYI.....this is what graywolf stated " To use your factory seat like I did ,I originally had the shoulder strapes go over the seat.  This felt unsafe so I took the seat to a upholstery shop  to have holes placed for the shoulder straps. Well there was steel frame work in the way. So the seat frame was cut and re welded .  A better solution is to buy a race seat which weights less . I kept the stock seat because I liked that look."

There are some harnesses with a pushbutton release instead of a twisting mechanism like I have on my Schroth 6 pointers. That may help something pass. But honestly, I have them in my car all the time, and they are a PITA to get in and out of.

The seat alone does enough that in my next car I will install seats and no harnesses.

kenny, you didn't keep the stock seat belt?

I was wondering if you use the stock seat belt during daily driving..............and use the 6 pt harness at the track?

any cons in doing that?
