Great to be here! Group special!
« on: February 24, 2012, 01:31:24 PM »
Hi Folks!

Great to be part of this community.  A little about ourselves ... we are the original team that developed the DashHawk for MSD and we participated in the SpeedVision series "Setup" that raced and modified the Solstices (that was FUN!)

As a result, we have more than a passing familiarity with your platform!

As a "Great to be here!" special, we'd like to off you folks a discount to get some units out there for you to play with of our new product Dashboss (http://www.dashboss.com).

If you buy before March 15th and use the promo code KAPPASPECIAL you will get free shipping and the price is $149.95 ($20 off the regular price and $8.95 UPS shipping for FREE!)

We look forward to participating with the Kappa folks again!

What parameters are supported? Just SAE standard, GM specific or even GM extended? In many cases the data rate of GM specific are higher than the SAE standard.
GM.KR for one..?

SCDyne

I purchased this.  Compared to Rev, DashCommand and some others, it seems to be the first iPhone app that can display both
Knock Retard
and
Misfires [Both Current and History]
In a Dashboard.
Then you can set alerts for 3 different levels and if those parameters are triggered, that section of the dashboard will flash Yellow, Orange or Red, in that order for Severity.

The Digital Dashboard can display 12 different items and most of those are what you can look at with HP Tuners which is really nice.  It's not 100% of HPT, but 12 is enough to get the majority of the major things and allow you to leave the laptop at home.
There is a record button on the Dashboard, so anything you are monitoring in real time can be logged and saved for later.
It can pull, display and clear DTCs and they are working on the Readiness Codes

The device is Bluetooth and I stream my music from my iPhone to my Kenwood via Bluetooth and also talk on the phone.  None of this conflicts or causes any performance degradation.

Unlike the WIFI devices, it turns off when the car is off.  And, once you sync it once, it will auto sync with the iPhone automatically if Bluetooth is turned on.

I was not happy with Rev not being updated in years and DashCommand not having what I wanted to see in a dashboard.
As such

I am very pleased with the Dashboss.  It was money well spent.

Three questions
... Do you support 2007 GXP (wasn't listed on your prior to 2008 page)?
... do you store the data in your module or do you upload it to the iPhone/Touch/Pad?
... are there limits RE: how much data you record ... if I start to record now how long (timewise) will it continue?

Nice engineering to use bluetooth ... the amount of sophistication is amazing!

I would assume data for logs would be limited to the space on the iPhone.

Sweet.. I don't have HPT so that is a second thought for me. I have EFILive and it comes with a 4 line LCD display and removable SD, which I use to monitor stuff.
But for the HPT owners (which there seem to be a lot of sheep) this looks like a sweet option and combined still less than EFILive.
I don't always want to take EFILive FlashScan around with me so having a solution that displays in my iPhone is nice.. Especially If I can trigger alerts with from Knock or possibly even AFR even if it's from the Analog input.. Can't have everything, but for the price (even retail) this is a real sweet deal..
It's been almost 2 years since I bought the OT2 and Dashcommand and it still doesn't work as advertised for the kappa. Sounds like I may have to put the OT2 up on ebay and get this instead.. sweet.

Sorry folks … long story … lost our login, confusion as to who did what …  :violin:

FINALLY found it and catching up!  So sorry for the mega quote ...

Same for me, I have an Android tablet.

Not immediately… the iOS platforms and the certification we went through to be "Made for Apple" (which nobody else to my knowledge has done, since we do Bluetooth it's required) have sucked up all our resources so we haven't spent any time on an Android version.  We want to look at doing a port, but realistically we haven't got any firm plans for it yet.

Quick note though … 2G iPod touches are going really cheap on eBay and some used/refurb sites.  I picked one up recently for $55 that was like new from eBay for testing.  Works fine!  I have noticed though that the new 4G touch (another test device) definitely has "crisper" screen (I assume because it's Retina) and is quicker to load and such.

Yes to all for you Kappa folks … being a GM guy primarily, we have lots of GM goodies! :)  Please see:

1.  Yes
2.  We store the data on the iPhone/Touch/iPad … and it's limited to space on the device.
3.  That said, I have a couple of 1 hour plus long logs on my iPad 2.  I seem to remember logging an entire trip from Colorado to Utah (or at least the big long boring portion across Wyoming! :)  Couple hours at least.

Thanks on the bluetooth front … it really kicked our butts for awhile, but once we got over the hump and went through the Apple certification process (which was a trail of tears in it's own right … sometimes being first, you pay the price!) each release gets "slicker" based on feedback from folks like yourselves.

We just released v1.4 and it was published on the iTunes App Store and includes the READINESS MONITOR STATUSES now and a bunch of stuff for the A/D inputs to make them easier to interface with.  You folks are already lucky enough to have an OEM wideband (right?) and direct injection pressure parameters, but the diesel guys are loving the ability to plumb in external fuel pressure, EGT(s) or boost (depending on engine).  Those of us not so lucky (like my Trailblazer SS with the LS2) don't get an OEM wide band O2, so I run the DynoJet Wide Band 2 into one of the A/D ports so I can have AFR/EqR.

I saw the addition of the readiness Codes.
That will be very handy as my truck has to get inspected this month.
I'll make sure everything is completed before making the appointment.

It was your suggestion that prompted it! :)

It's pretty important here too … this year for the first time my county in Colorado is requiring the dyno test procedure.  My SS has been sitting all winter and the battery went dead (and I mean DEAD … ended up replacing it).  I had to drive it quite a bit to get all the monitors to be "ready" before I could take it in to get it through the test.

What a PITA that is … neat facility though.  We do a lot of dyno testing of different stuff on a current eddy dyno and 5 gas analyzer, but the state's stuff is an order of magnitude more expensive.

They implemented that in PA, then realized that more cars pass emissions on the Dyno test then with a simple sniffer.  So now after all the shops purchased the dynos, they only check the DTC and readiness codes.  If you have no engine codes and the readiness codes are complete you are fine.  They don't even look under the car anymore to see if you even have an exhaust.

Glad to be of help.  I'm loving the Dashboss.  I hope it ends up being as successful as the Dashhawk for you guys.

I realized I missed the group buy, but I was busy traveling the world and hopping continents.  I want to order this, but your website is lacking military addresses.  Check this site out to see what I mean:
