Las Vegas NASCAR
« on: March 11, 2012, 06:04:01 PM »
Well, Earnhardt's team gave him the fastest car at the track. And as he has done so many times, blasted into the lead only to fall back in the field. So, at least we know it's not the crew chief. I wonder what's up with that.

And with 11 laps to go, 2 or my 3 favorites are 1-2.

Oh, wait .... all 3 are in the top 5.

Always ambassadors 24/7. I thought that as a given...It's generating funds for additional activities that are hard to come by! Besides this lousy economy is the biggest recruiting tool the mililtary has. They can pick and choose the best.

True true. If somebody wants to be in the military and not be ducking bullets all of the time, the USAF is the way to go. I really enjoyed my two hitches. Pretty easy life, but the money sort of sucked - at least then.

Pay is still not super but Bush certainly did give us some good pay raises. As far as I know I was never shot at but we landed in some pretty crappy places so its possible some locals gave it a go. But as far as I know it never happened. Worked nuc's the first half of my career and that was a very easy life (if not pristine assignments). Was a C-130 loadmaster the second half and that came with some challenges but I'd do all over again.

LOVED my job. Air traffic control radar repair. But, when I got out (at 7.5 years in late 1976) the wars were over, bases were closing, my carrier field was shrinking, and even though I was promoted faster than I could put on the stripes, it would have been another 8-10 more years time in grade for a promotion, or gamble on cross training. I made the right choice. But, the USAF is more like a decent job as opposed to "real military". Hell, when I went through basic, the obstacle course was PAVED !!!!!!!!!!!!!! We were pussies, for sure. But I never had to dodge bullets.

I started my career in 1981 and the first check that I can remember was for 214.00 every pay day. I was an E-2 at the time. My dad retired in 1970 and his base pay was only 606.00 as an E-7...

For the most part the Air Force does have it the easiest of all the branches of the military. I was going to try out for pararescue but was told you only get one try at it and my swimming was not up to snuff so my plan was to get my swimming where it needed to be but never got around to trying out. We have a career field, forward combat controller, that most people don't know about. Often times Air Force personnel are the first ones into enemy territory. Of course these guys are more army rangers than paper pushers!

Air Force forward air controllers are about as crazy as the Rangers and Seals. One only has to look them in the eyes. Been there, seen that. As for the food, it is not ship board Navy, but not bad.

Wife just got home and told me she had to do CPR on a guy at the race. Unfortunately there was nothing she could fo for him...He was about 65, overweight, hypertensive. Most likely stroked out or cardiac arrest. Sad.

THAT is rough. Sometimes a tide can not be turned. She should be proud.
