Why would it be unsellable here Miller? Some people here have actually modded their Sky to look like an Opel so why wouldn't someone be interested in buying an actuall Opel?

Mainly the issue will be that the car will have over 5k to get it in the states and legal. It is illegal to sell a car that is in the states and not in compliance with EPA/DOT restrictions. You must also use a Independent commercial importer that has good standing with the EPA to ship the car here (cant just use any carrier).

So with the $3200 + parts quoted to make the car "EPA compliant", and the shipping will not be cheap due to special licensing/ certifications, he will easily be in the car for $30,000 USD. (Keep in mind that the car in Germany is worth $26,000 USD)

I just have a hunch if he wants opel parts, he could pick up any of the pcs he needs for less and add them to a car here in the US for far cheaper, if that is what he desires.

Our average redline right now is going from anywhere in the $15,000-$23,000 USD range depending on mileage and year. That means Ironhide would have at least an extra $7,000 USD to mod anything you would like. You could buy a super low mileage Sky RL and still have an easy 7k left over to modify it. (not to mention saving the giant headache for all of these steps)

I'm just not seeing anyone willing to pay 35k for a car just because its an original Opel GT in the US. I could be wrong, but it seems doubtful.

The car won't be able to be brought into the states if it doesn't meet EPA/DOT requirements.

So because it will cost more then what you think it's worth then it will be unsellable? Remember Spicey's car he had way more in it then what he sold it for but he still sold it.

If he wants to bring his car to the states and go through all the red tape to do so that's his choice just like if you want to add a V8 to your car.

Once he has it here he can sell it if he wants but since he is willing to go through the hassle and expense to bring it here it means he probably isn't interested in selling it.

I am just saying the adventure will be a loss for sure. Goodluck if you choose to do it Ironhide. I would be interested to see how it goes if you decide to do so.

Hi

I never wanted to sell my car in the USA and it has no mods!

Here the the GT is rare (only 7000 sold here).

So when I bought my car here it had a price of 34.000 Euro (at this time 49.300 $).

Okay now you can get a GT for 15.000 Euro (19.950 $), but it will be in a bad condition and has a high milage.
A good friend bought a GT for 15.000 Euro and it has a lot of stone chippings, scratches and the windshield is damaged.

Today I've talked to my Opel dealer and I gave him some of the spare part numbers (link I got here)!
The spare parts of the Sky are the same for the Opel.
He tried to order the labels, but they are blocked by GM.

He has entered my VIN in his computer and it said: US Car, Manufacturer GM, build Wilmington Dalaware USA, for spare parts refer to GM page.
He told me that all spare parts he has ordered for my car have been shipped from the USA (GM / Detroit).
When I asked him for the parts that would be needed to be replaced he started to laugh and told me only the speedometer.
He thinks that GM doesn't help me, because they don't like to have an "Opel" in the USA.

The only other thing that's different that I know of (besides the speedo) are the lights. They are different for European law, but the Europe ones may actually be OK for here since the US allows more variants of turn and brake signal lights.

ironhide, GT-Sky (US version) known differences are:

GT has rear fog light (and equivelant button on the dash, next to front fog light switch)
GT has two horns
Sky has different side markers. their function also differs than on the GT
Sky has speed limiter
Sky has differnet set up when using the turn lights (stay on when lights are on and flash whenever u push the lever). GT's stay off all the time and only flash when u push the lever
GT has km/hr dash board
GT has different antenna
Sky has more extra equipment (on star, bluetooth etc)

other than these, cars are 100% identical

Dont forget the GT has different tail lights compared to its sky brethren.

Thank you for these informations!

I've done some research from here and found a lot of evidence (Wikipedia and so on)!

The Saturn and the Opel are the same car.
Even GM Powertrain Germany confirmed that there haven't been important changes (emission and safety).

I don't know why GM is making a secret out of it?

Found the reason for it!

GM has removed the daylight relay!

By the way GM is ignoring my mails!
I have sent my informations and evidence to the aftersales manager (helped me several times) and asked him for technical support.
In addition to that I've asked him why he isn't telling me the truth about my car which would make my life a little bit easier.

Till that mail GM started ignoring me.

Has anyone an idea why they are making a secret of the details about the GT?

Hi Kelu,

I think you're right.

The NHTSA registered importer has answered my mail (gave him all informations I got).
He asked me to look if my lighting has a DOT or SAE on it.
So I think he believes that it will not be so difficult and expensive to import my car.
He wanted to know when I will ship my car.
I will have to tell him that I still have no greencard, hope I will get it this year!!!!!!!

Here is the funny idea of my neighbour how to get my car through the customs!

He really installed the US police undercover lights in my car!
I will have to ask him to uninstall them!

Oliver Just leave them in and Rundown to the Docks and tell the Car has to get to the United States "ASAP" for plain car work . Anyway there are some cars that use Lights for Shows Good Luck and hope you can get your Green Card soon.

By the way am I the only person who has a problem with stone-chipping on his windshield?

My car is four years old now and I got four windshields in this time.
The new one has already two small stone-chippings.
