Oh, stop whining. I've been waiting for my car for a year and three months.
Sounds like you might be a little bit related to Murphy too.

Ask them to call GM Tech and ask them about the issue and GM will confirm.  In addition there should be a Tech bulletin just for the Tech's to read before they start working on the  pump.
Went back Monday with the Coupe and as soon as I started the car, the whine was still there.  This time they had the General Manager, Service Manager, Shop Supervisor and the mechanic.  None of them thought anything was wrong..... until I shut off my car and started the Coupe.  They is was no longer a deer in the headlights.

The manager started asking the mechanic questions and he started choking and gun slinging stupid ideas.  "It sounds like a bearing"  I said no way...  That is caused from the balance shaft tensioner not being reset.

I went back into the office with the Service Manager and had him look up the solstice in the GM Service database and gave him the key words to search, found the section and indicated to him that those were the instruction I had emailed to the shop manager last week.  I asked that the shop mechanic put a stethoscope on it and confirm the location of the noise since the Service manager still wasn't positive what the issue was being caused from.

I need to call GM customer support to let them know what's going on.

I feel sorry for those who don't know about this type of maintenance and the issues and get their cars serviced at dealers who don't have a f-n clue.  Then your stuck with their comments "It's all done and ready to be picked up"

Today it has been at the dealer for 3 weeks....

Despicable. This is why I hate most garages and am very loyal to the good ones.

However, as someone who has worked in a number of large organizations, I find it amazing the number of folks who do mot read directions. And you can see it even here. How many questions are posted for things in the owners manual?  Most people are plain lazy.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

This PI was superseded to update model years and engines involved. Please discard PIP3535.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

The following diagnosis might be helpful if the vehicle exhibits the symptom(s) described in this PI.

Condition/Concern:
A whine noise from the front of the engine may be experienced if the balance shaft tensioner has ratcheted out, causing the balance shaft chain to be too tight. In rare instances the balance shaft tensioner will ratchet out during service of the cylinder head, timing chain or if the water pump is replaced without using the water pump sprocket holding tool (J43651). This will cause the balance shaft chain to be too tight, which can cause a whine noise from the front of the engine.

Recommendation/Instructions:
Before attempting repairs, ensure that the noise is definitely abnormal by comparing the noise to other known good vehicles. If the noise is abnormal and the noise was not present previously, the balance shaft chain tensioner may need to be reset or replaced. Follow eSI repair procedures and reset/replace the balance shaft chain tensioner as needed.

At least they acknowledge that the noise is abnormal now they have to fix it. I dread the thought of losing the water pump on mine but hopefully I can find someone when the time comes that is capable of fixing it.

We are at a HUGE disadvantage when it comes to dealers that know anything about the Solstice except minor repairs.  There were such few made in comparison even if you add Balts and Sky's  and for such a short time that unless you are in an area that has seen 20-30 of them at the same dealer for the gamit of issues most do not know SQUAT and do not take the time to READ the PI or Tech Bulletins let alone Service bulletins GM puts out.  I can tell you Iv'e been to 3 dealers in my area one of which is the Largest in my town that SELLS all GM vehicles and even they are clueless on the  Solstice.  I get the same response from all "we just don't see but a few and most just for minor repairs or oil changes".

Hope it comes back right.

DDM gives out engine warranties! unfortunately its a bit pricey since you have to do a full motor rebuild to get it

Speaking of GM warranties can one Cancel there existing GM extended warranty and get a prorated refund then turn around and purchase a longer GM extended warranty?  Or do you need to wait until the current GM extended warranty runs out?

I don't by the fact that they can't do the repair because it's a Solstice. If you look at the list of cars in the TSB that Joe posted above, pretty well anything with an Ecotec can have the same issue. Looks to me as though the problem is either lazy or not so bright mechanics doing the work.
