Topic: Intermittent Electrical Problem

2007 Solstice GXP, Automatic Transmission. All Stock.

Heres what happens:

Speedo, Tach, and Fuel gage drop to zero.
ABS light comes on
Traction Control light comes on
DIC goes to -------------
Passlock security light comes on
Symptoms usually preceded by a single chime.
Car runs fine otherwise but if you shut down it will not restart....probably because of the passlock light being on.
Will restart 1/2 to an hour later and run fine for days.
All gages and annunciator lights self test ok when key cycled.


Here's what I did so far:

Cleaned battery connections, cleaned and checked grounds on engine, and by both headlamp areas and applied dielctric grease to such...Problem still exists.

Resecurred and applied dielectric grease to BCM connections and to ECM the other day...have to road test for several day to verify if fix successfull.

Any other ideas as to what to check or solutions?

How old is your battery?  I've seen/heard of many strange effects when our batteries start to turn up their toes.

I know the battery seems to usually be the problem but let's not forget the fuse box. Make sure all the fuses are tight and the connections to the fuse box are good.

Yeah, I've been contemplating the battery too. Never had it tested but it spins the engine over fast when cranking even after it sits for a week or two.  Hate to throw parts at it but if it acts up after the last fix, I shall replace it.
As for the fuse box under the hood, I forgot to mention, but they all been checked and secured too.

Just swap batteries with a comparable and do a test.  If that's not it, put yours back in.

OK, thanks for all the info. I'll see how it runs and if it acts up over the long Easter weekend.
Seems like you can get away driving it for two or three days before the issue resurfaces again.

you may want to make sure that your connections on your battery are firm.  If the terminals are loose these types of things can happen.

Kallake, I believe Dark Tech is correct from the symptoms mentioned, hec your battery may be fine, our early build 2007 still has the original battery.  Loose or ill fitting connections can cause this problem.

Yup, battery connections are nice and tight. One of the first things I did was clean and scrub  the posts and cable ends and tighten the clamps nice and tight.
When recuring the wiring harnesses at the bcm, I did notice that the bolt holding the big harness in was somewhat loose. After taking all the connections off the bcm, appliying dieclectric grease on the connections and resecuring them the problem hasnt resurfaced after 400km of off and on driving the past week. I'll keep my fingers crossed and if the problem does resurface, I'll replace the battery. Will update after a few weeks to keep all in the loop.

Been driving the Solstice steady. After 2 tanks of fuel from the last post the car is still running fine.
A loose bcm connection seems to have been the culprit. Thanks for all your ideas and help. Hopefully this post helps someone else out on where to look before they start throwing parts at it prematurely. Some great resources on this forum.

I have this same problem. I believe that is why I wasted money on a new battery.

What I have found is that sometimes my car will not even start after sitting. When that happens, I take the key out of the ignition, unlock the doors with the fob, push lock twice (hear the beep), and then the car will start.

If everything shuts down as you mentioned, I can pull over, stop, and do the same routine - then the car will start and all systems will be go.

I am curious to learn if your problem has been cured completely?
