I'd have picked 1972 and maybe 1990 as the ends of the period where they made no interesting cars, as that's when they emasculated them in North America, and when they once again started to gain interest, although that latter date is open to argument. In between, a vast barren landscape of underpowered blah.

PS - if someone gave me a brand new Camaro, I would own it for the exact time it took me to resell it! Like Bob said, a couple of seats (and about a half ton of dead weight) too much to interest me, no matter how much power you put in them.

Funny you mention deals...I just inquired about a used white 2008 Solstice...UGH OH...may be back with the Kappas in the near future, but this time I am keeping both the Challenger and the Solstice if I can find a white 2.4L at a good price, and then I'll have DDM SC it!

When something happens to my dad...and hopefully that will be when I am old and grey, I'll be up to 5 real quick. 66 Chevy Pick Me Up Truck with 3 on the Tree. I'm not counting the 2 antique Farmall tractors. I'm also in line for a 66 or 67 Mustang. 7 might not be far off!

At any rate...let me throw this out there...since there may be deals out there now, what would you pick up for a daily driver? What's out there because I really haven't stayed current on new cars for a few years now.

Only replacement I've toyed around with always comes back to the same thing, it has to have a V8. Mainly because I'm beginning to think that between 2.0, hybrids, and total electrics, V8s days look to be numbered in passenger cars. The same debate is facing supercars in that can it truly be one if it isn't 12 cylinders. I've gotten the impression that it has nothing to do with 4s, 6s, or 8s being able to produce the same amount of power (super or turbo) as much as it's purely about the number of cylinders.

Having said that, our old Honda has over 100 K and I'm beginning to wonder if a modern replacement may be in the furture. I'm diggin several different cars, but the majority of them generally have 2.0. Which I'm beginning to think is the modern or future equivalent of the SBC.

My main concern is that any new car purchase takes $$$ away the hope of ever dropping a V8 in a Kappa.

Are you just looking for something to tool around town in? If so you might want something with great gas mileage since I don' see that going down again. Ever.

That's what I get for multi-tasking. It's around 113,000. Little Civic still runs great and it can probably go go 200K.
I'm old school so when a vehicle hits 100K I get paranoid. Was looking at Golfs, the chopped VW catches my eye, along w/that 3 door Hyudai model, Honda CRX, regardless hoping to go against popularity and go with a 2 door sedan. Goes back to when I was growing up and most of my peers hating 4 doors. Only 2 doors domestics I can think of right now are the throwback muscle cars.

That Honda will probably make another 150K without any issues, truth is most modern cars probably can do that to.

The big trend to 2.0 cars and smaller is because of all the tax laws in non USA countries that tax the hell out of bigger engines. Globalization forces car makers to use what they have and we here in the US get a lot of cars with 2.0 or smaller engines.

And when will US manufacturers figure out that not everyone wants a car with 4 doors and an insurance price hike of a supposed muscle car? I went through this about 2 years ago and ended up with an almost new Pontiac G6 GXP coupe.

So am I wrong in blaming CEO w/MBAs? Point being, are they, or is it consumer's pushing the unrelenting 4 doors or one size fits all mentality? While I'm sure there are other manufactures, Honda pops to mind when it comes to mind in still offering several 2-door coupes.

I could/should add MINI to my original considering list. The main reason I don't think about them is their price point (not their product). Basically thinking that MINI/BMW is establishing/pushing a mini-luxury or near luxury segment for the primary purpose of generating extra profit the segment has established.

A few years ago I had my heart set on a BMW. Several years ago I attended the BMW driving experience and was able to drive several models. I always thought why would one spend so much money on a BMW until I drove one. A good friend of mine leased one and ended up dumping it. He got tired of the maintenance and service on it. So...that's probably off my list.

I saw used Mini's the other day and thought that might be kinda fun as a daily driver. I'm asking in general what people would get. I'm more of a car girl myself. I have 2 dogs and I do miss having 4 doors. I hauled my Solstice exhaust in my Grand Prix a few times when I had it. Now I have to drop the top in the G6 when I haul something big. So not sure a small car would do it for me again. But maybe.

Whatever I get...and it'll probably be a few year...it's gonna have to be comfortable to make long trips to Iowa/Illinois several times a year. Get me to work (20 minutes) everyday...be decent in the snow and still kinda fun to drive when I feel like stepping on it!

3 door Hyundai Veloster, will have a turbo version this year if not not. But you can't get the dual clutch automatic with the turbo, but you can get the 6 speed manual

Agreed. Love me some open headers on a big block. The vids do not do it justice, but a BB with no exhaust pounds your chest just idling by.... one of my favorite feelings... that and smelling race gas/spray
